Just curious, wanting to pull the trigger on a guitar that goes in and out of stock but never in stock anywhere near me. Just curious on people's experiences with that, if they have. Sorry if already posted. Saw some older ones but times change so figured it could have gotten better or worse. Thanks baws.

It's not the other way around?
You gonna pull the trigger on that 1957?
I wouldn't worry 1 bit, buying from Sweetwater.
If you don't like it, they will make it good.

Yeah looking to when they get back in stock, just had always heard good things about them but never ordered from em and figured many here had and if they could set it up out the box even better. Oh idk as far as the other way around, it could be maybe you mail it back but for that I'd just do it or take it somewhere for something I didn't feel comfortable doing. That would make sense though. Thanks Aug

Pretty sure my friend bought his 1957 from Sweetwater.
That guitar is about as perfect as they get.
Those already have the Plek done on them. You don't have to pay extra for that.

I love Sweetwater, they treat me like a king, but I think the extra $$ for their pro setup is not a great value. In that every brand new Sweetwater guitar that has crossed my bench having that treatment, I could always set up the guitar even better. It's like their techs just made sure the guitar met its individual manufacturer's setup sheet specs (which are ALWAYS higher that what an actual "pro setup" creates) and shot the guitar out the door.

I personally think it's kind of like those point-of-purchase underbody rust protection sealers car salesmen pitch you at that point of sale. It's a way for them to sell you peace of mind more than anything, and reduce the likelihood of dissatisfaction with the purchase.

Also ... I'm not going to pay extra to have a brand new guitar (that is still trying to figure out its not pieces of trees) to be set up in the upper Midwest, only to have the truss rod go haywire upon arriving in the Deep Gulf South thanks to our higher temps and MUCH higher humidity.

You are better off spending that setup money with a good tech that is local to you AFTER the guitar gets to you and acclimates to itself and its new environs.

As I mentioned before, my friend recently bought 1 of the Epiphone 1957 J200s, I'm pretty sure it was from Sweetwater.
He got the guitar with the factory setup, which included the PLEK process. He didn't pay for anything extra.
It arrived playing perfectly. He's very happy with it, and that's saying something.
The guy builds some of the best Dreadnought and OM guitars you can get. He's been building them for 50 years and has a years long waiting list of customers.
He's just never built Jumbos and he wanted one.
He may have to tweak it down the road, but it plays like a dream, right out of the box.
What I'm saying is "don't pay extra for the setup". It probably won't need it.

This thread is very hard to decipher and follow.

I'm not talking about any specific manufacturer, I'm talking about the extra add-on services Sweetwater sells on the back end. AKA What the thread title and this quote led me to believe OP was posting about ... am I reading this wrong?

I still say unless you don't have a good tech wherever you live, don't pay Sweetwater to do this. Minimal ROI at best.

Yeah, I guess I got things off track, because I didn't really address the pro setup part, even though I put that in my quotes.
What I was mainly trying to say "just buy the guitar, if you don't like it, send it back". Sweetwater is good with that.
Sometimes I know I don't spend enough time typing to make things clear. I hate typing.
I knew he was wanting one of the 1957 J200s and I know they are hard to get right now.

If I need a PLEK on a brand new guitar, I think maybe I’m not buying the right guitar.

Used guitar, yeah, go for it, it will greatly improve the playability.

The guitar he has his eye on, is already PLEked, before it even comes to Sweetwater.
It shouldn't need anything other than slight tweaking of the truss rod maybe. Probably not even that.

Off topic, just a rant. I've had a few different reps over the years, my current one is by far the worst one I've had. I ordered a Katana awhile back. It came with a cracked plastic corner cap. I emailed him and asked if he could just send me a cap. He never bothered to reply. All of my other reps have been great. This isn't the only issue I've had with him.

I have been wanting your opinion on this topic for a while and didn’t want to create a topic to ask directly. Glad I came across this thread.

Love the insight you bring to this board
