INTs - Our Achilles Heel This Week

This is mostly obvious, but this is essentially going to determine the game.
LSU is 21st in throwing INTs, Alabama is 10th in intercepting passes.
On the flip side, Alabama is middle of the pack throwing INTs at #62 nationally, while LSU rarely gets interceptions sitting at #105.
This is likely in large part because of the drastic difference in being able to run the ball, setting up manageable 3rd and short's rather than difficult 3rd and long's requiring easy reads for Milroe and tough decisions for Nuss. Alabama is 47th in rushing yards per game, while LSU is 111th.

he has to take care of the ball

The weather might be the biggest factor. If we are in a monsoon, running the ball is your friend. We all know what that spells for LSU.

The only monsoons on Saturday shall be the piss balloons raining on the Alabama team and faithful and their monsoon of tears as they watch their season end!

Weather will not be a issue.

If nobody is open he needs to either run (which he prob won't) or throw it away quickly. Don't be a hero every play.

If Nuss has an INT free game we win.

The low INT rank is based on two games... Nuss just has to get his head out of his arse. Coaching has to improve.

what if I told you that Milroe throws more interceptions per attempt than Nuss. Stats can be misleading.

The point being that Alabama doesn't have to throw the ball 40-50 times per game because they have a running game keeping them ahead of the sticks, and that allows Milroe to either hand the ball off more or at least puts much less pressure on him to make difficult throws. Nussmeier has constantly had significant pressure to make difficult throws, and while you're correct that he makes fewer mistakes per attempt, the sheer volume of our passing game has made his INTs inflated. This isn't intended to be a "Nussmeier vs Milroe" based post, as you're implying.

If we can even the playing field with our running game, then the INTs per attempt stat you've brought up here would really come into play.

We should operate under the guise of "nothing cheap, nothing deep." Milroe is not someone who is going to pick you apart in the intermediate to short passing game. He gets easy completions and takes shots down field.
If we can take away the easy throws and deep throws he is going to take it off and run or force the ball over the middle (which he struggles with). Would like to see how we plan on stopping his running attack and scrambles while also forcing him to throw the ball into tight windows/intermediate throws.

Or, as Curly Hallman would say, our "Achilles' tendon."

Correct, but they are pretty close in interceptions per attempt… Nuss throws an interception every 37 pass attempts (9 out of 333) and Milroe throws an interception every 34 pass attempts (6 out of 203).
They are also almost identical in TD to INT ratio… Nuss is 2.22 to 1 (20-9) and Milroe is 2.17 to 1 (13-6).

of course it would. You made a point to point out where lsu was ranked for throwing interceptions compared to Bama, but you left out we throw it more than 50% more than they do...which obviously increases the risk of interceptions.

Score 5TDs and give up 2 INTs, I am ok with that. See it all the time in the NFL
