BATON ROUGE, La. – Former LSU All-American Alex Bregman of the Houston Astros has been named the 2024 American League Gold Glove Award winner at third base.

The Gold Glove Award, which goes to the best defensive player in each league at his position, is the first for Bregman, who just completed his ninth season with the Astros.

Bregman becomes the second former LSU player to win a Gold Glove Award. Second baseman DJ LeMahieu has four Gold Gloves, three with the Colorado Rockies (2014, 2017, 2018) and one with the New York Yankees (2022).

Bregman joins five-time winner Doug Rader (1970-74 in the National League) as the only Astros third basemen to win the award.

Bregman in 2024 led AL third basemen in games (142), fielding percentage (.972), assists (242), total chances (355) and putouts (103). He was also tied for first in outs above average (six), tied for second in defensive runs saved (six) and third in zone rating (.799).

They do have Jazz Chisholm at 3B right now. But I’ve always been worried he’d end up in those God awful pinstripes one day.

DJ has had a great career below the radar. Even more surprising since part of it was with the yankees.

3x all star
4x Gold glove
2x Batting champ

50K bonus for that achievement.
The guy is a true professional. He does more than just hit. He works hard on his D.

I think the Yanks will move Jazz to second and let Torres walk. If the Yankees don’t resign Soto, I bet they move on Alex.

He has made it clear he loves Houston… Houston loves having him here and he has been one of the most popular players since day one… his wife is from katy and I believe her family still there… so there is hope.

If they give him 6, he may stay. That puts him at 37. He will get paid 25 IMO and I just don’t think the Astros are gonna go where others may be closer to 30.
He does everything and I have no idea what they will do to fill the leadership void.
