First time visitors to Tiger Stadium for game vs Alabama!

Good morning!
My group (8 guys, all 40 something) are coming in town to experience our first LSU game this coming weekend against Alabama.
Lots of great advice already from this awesome group of what we should do in the morning, thank you to all of you who take the time to provide so much information!
We would love to tailgate after checking out the campus and tiger sanctuary and a buddy found some ticket tailgates on a website. That said, I feel like the experts are here to tell us why that is a good or bad idea.
Any advice for a group like ours? I was just thinking of trading bottles of bourbon for food and groups to hang out with - is that tacky? (two in our group have said they would be embarrassed to do this, I feel like they are being way too self conscious).
Looking forward to seeing LSU win big this weekend!

Just go and start talking to people. 90% of them would be happy to take your group in.

You’re going to want to get out there early.
Head to walkons for some bloody marys/mimosas and enjoy the patio and sports on tv.
Then make your way to campus and just pop in random tailgates, tell them it’s your first time etc and you’ll be treated right at home.
After the game head back to walk one for live music and grab some food and keep the party going.
Feeling wild? Head over to Fred’s in Tiger land. Fun college bar but will have DJ and an older crowd due to gameday.
Don’t stop just yet. Catch a ride over to laburge and gamble until your up!

Never a bad idea to offer up bourbon in exchange for food.
Enjoy the atmosphere

Your plan sounds good. Bourbon is never a bad welcome gift.
Where are y’all from?

Get out there early. Campus is going to be an absolute shite show basically 1pm on. I'd go to Chimes as soon as they open, maybe 9 or 10 for a boudin omelet and Bloody marys/beers/mimosas. Once your done, just walk around campus since it'll be buzzing. Look for tailgates with big pots of jambalaya or gumbo being cooked in massive cast iron pots. Ask them what they have cooking, tell them it's your first LSU gameday experience, and 90% will invite yall in and treat you right. Offer your bottle of whiskey, that's a good idea, or cash... Have a great time and go into the stadium well fed and liquored up. It'll be an insane atmosphere until our dumb coach decides to receive instead of kickoff and the crowd has to calm down
When looking for tailgates, I'd avoid the parade grounds as that is generally younger people like college kids. The best spot is probably going to be around Lockett hall, that way you can see the band and team go down the hill and hop over to the tiger sanctuary easily as well. Some bigger/nicer tailgates over there, especially on the south side of Lockett.

Go see mike
Go watch the band come down the hill
Go talk to some RV tailgates next to the stadium, and let them know what you're doing down there
Enjoy the sights, sounds and food
Enjoy the game... should be a good one!

Curious, NY guys that are LSU fans, or just college football fans and want to experience Tiger Stadium?

Wear the colors/gear of your alma maters or favorite team. That will clearly identify you as a neutral visiting fan.
Get in the stadium no less than an hour before kickoff. For big games like this one, pregame is almost as much fun as the game itself. And it will be dark at 530 on Saturday.
Enjoy! It will be a memorable experience regardless of game outcome but of course better with an LSU victory.

Not to knock the choice, but your best tailgate will be put on by a 60-something guy and his three buddies. They must be in at least a 20-something-year-old RV with 800K miles on it, that has been to every home game and most away games. Under a faded LSU tent behind the RV, they will be cooking gumbo (chicken/sausage and seafood, if there is tomato in the gumbo, leave, they are not Cajun) jambalaya, and/or pasta-laya, If he has some maque choux that's a bonus. If you are early enough he may have some homemade boudin kolaches for breakfast.

Embarrassed? Are you kidding?

Wear your school colors especially if you all have multiple schools! It’ll draw questions and invites from other tailgates. Start near Lockett Hall and cloverleaf the east side of the stadium. Thats where usually go!

Just Sport fans really more than College Football fans.
As we've gotten older (and had families) we've realized its more fun going to sporting experiences different then what we are used to from growing up or where we live now.

Thanks to everyone for their responses. Looks like we'll be going the route of trading Bourbon for Food! If you see a group of 40 year olds walking around with buffalo trace, that's probably us!
