In December, I have to fly into IAH. I need to rent a car, but my flight lands a little too close for comfort with an engagement I need to be at that evening.

Does anyone know of any concierge services offered by the majors (or other companies I've never heard of) whereby they pick you up right outside the terminal in the car you've already rented? TIA

I don’t have much to offer, but know that the rental shuttle is typically pretty efficient and if you can bypass the rental car desk, it’s usually a quick turnaround.

Have you considered just Ubering?

OK, thanks. It's not one of those soul-crushing set ups where the rental pavilion seems like it's in another county?

I would normally do that, but Houston is huge and I have a lot of different places to get to over the weekend.

Turo owners will sometimes meet you at the terminal.

Depends which rental car company. There are a few within 3 minutes or so and a couple are over near fricking Interstate 59.

I would consider just ubering to your meeting and then renting a car after the meeting is over for the rest of the trip. with flights, who knows what will happen these days.

Uh, 59 is less than 3 miles East.
The rental center for the majors is close by, but your problem, no matter what, is going to be traffic leaving the terminals because of the construction. I've waited more than 25 minutes for a Lyft that was on airport grounds to pick me up at E, and it's taken me close to that long to get dropped off at C/D/E once the driver turns off onto JFK (road leading to IAH).

I'm not sure how far you need to drive from IAH, or at what time, but you may want to schedule an earlier flight.

I go to DFW and IAH quite often and I’ve been using Budget lately.

It seems that I get the option of picking you up for an extra charge. Just can’t remember which airport it is.

Also, as others have said, the Uber/Lfyft line at IAH can be a drag. You can see your car and it will be 10-15 minutes before they get through the queue.

I also don’t recall it being more than the usual annoyance getting a car there.

You could uber to your event then back to the airport if you are worried about the time.

IAH rental car is pretty quick and easy. Assuming you are not checking a bag, you will be out of the airport within 20-30 minutes in car.

That is a problem that Uber can easily solve for you.

If you find the right vehicle on Turo, they will do that

I typically fly in/out of terminal C twice a month or so - I typically roll out to the shuttle and it’s leaving in 2-3 minutes. Maybe a 5 minute drive then take the escalators down, head to your car, and roll out. I’d say with Avis it averages me about 15-20 minutes or so from the time I walk out to the shuttle.

No clue on that, but if theres anything you can do to build in more time, I would... IAH is hit or miss on being a complete clusterfrick.

I fly out pretty regularly, and although haven't rented a car, its about 50/50 returning and it taking forever to get out of the airport.

I refuse to land at IAH from 8-10am or 4-7pm. I've waited 30m for an uber before. I'd imagine the shuttles can be just as bad with the backed up traffic.

Thanks for all the input, guys.

I'm landing at Terminal A, if that changes any indications...
