Yeah, it had gotten overhyped by the time I saw it. There were some good scenes, but the drama elements came across like a low-brow k-drama.

It was too hyped by the time I saw it. Just like you. I thought it was going to be the greatest monster movie ever. Hell the first Godzilla in the new universe was better than Zero. It was overacted and hokey AF

Godzilla - 1 is a foreign film, which won best visuals. It’s a franchise 70 years old. Generally not the sort of thing the Academy recognizes. Let alone honors.

I didn’t say the film wasn’t well shot or didn’t have good effects. I said the acting was bad and it was hokey

It was one of the first things that stood out to me in this movie, the model was very old school but even thicker to support the top half and tail strength. Which makes sense from an anatomical perspective, but also looks kinda ridiculous compared to the athletic feeling current American godzilla
