We will never know what happened to that child. We can only speculate based on what has been released.
The grand jury voted to indict the parents, the DA said no. We didn't know about that until years later.
I can't wrap my head around it, but someone in that house (the mother, father or son) know more. Just can't figure out what the hell happened.
In my opinion it was one of 2 things:
1. Brother got pissed at her, hit her over the head, rendering her brain dead. Parents had to stage it.
or..
2. The mother lost her cool when JB wet herself and in a rage, hit her against the sink or tub. Not intentionally trying to kill her at all, just a terrible act that resulted in her being brain dead. Then staged it.
The intruder angle is too far fetched.

The theory was Patsy was very tired of the girl's bedwetting, and snapped into a sick, possessed, rage, then killed her downstairs. It makes sense.

The brother smeared his feces all over JB’s Christmas candy and her bathroom days before the murder. Burke also nailed her in the head with a bat hard enough that they had to go to the hospital. I think that was a year or two before the murder.

And the note having been written on a legal pad from inside the house which the authorities proved because the notepad was sitting out and the impressions/indentions on the next page were a transcript of the ransom note. That alone is enough to indict the whole family and let the justice system sort it out.

Parents covered for that weirdo brother. Then Boulder police Barney Fifed the frick out of the crime scene so we will never know what actually happened.
