Neighborhood has tree’s down everywhere, cut by power companies and laying by the roads. Was thinking this one might be ash. Coworker thinks sweet gum. Tree ID app says white oak
Little help from the OB on this begore i waste a sharp chain potentially on a sweet gum
TIA
FWIW no branches attached to these pcs in pic so no chance to tell from leaves

The leaves are 100% not sweetgum. They are an oak and do look like white oak.

Most of the white oaks I’m used to seeing are of the shaggy bark variety, kinda like a shag bark hickory for lack of a better reference

It's definitely one of the white oaks. White oaks have rounded leaves, red oaks have pointed leaves. All oaks are one or the other. It's not what most people refer to as a white oak (Quercus alba), but it's a white oak of some other species. For example, a live oak is technically a white oak, and a water oak is technically a red oak.

When I saw the pic before I read your post I thought white oak. But I am no expert by any stretch of the imagination.

If the limbs behind it are from the same tree then it is 100% white oak.

I see white oak (or post oak) leaves. I see what looks like sweet gum leaves. And I see a pine tree trunk.

Cut some of the wood and make a fire, if it smells like burning crap its likely a sweet gum/////////////////////////////My bad, I'm thinking about tupelo gum tree

That pile of branches with all the leaves is a white oak
If that trunk is the same tree as the pile of branches then it too is a white oak
