What's the story on Yamaha 250 SHO's?

I'm casually looking at a 25' Manitou party barge with a 2017 250SHO with 107 hours on it.
Any thoughts? Or even thoughts on a Manitou? I don't know anything about party barges.
I currently have a 2016 F300 on a different boat, and have had no issues.

Fantastic engine from my experience. Likes fuel at WOT, but every engine does.

I have a 2016 SHO 250 with 500 hrs on it. Not one bit of trouble. I love the engine

Sho’s are bulletproof. I have a 115 tiller on my boat and all it knows is to run. Had a gas can with bad gas in it last year that I brought on a ride, when I poured it in I probably made it 200 yards. Motor died. Realized it was bad gas, pumped it out, put fresh gas and it cranked right back up.
The other day my buddy got his surface drive stuck in some lilies, I backed in and cut a path with my motor for him to get out. I don’t advise that, but it got him out of a jam lol
You won’t regret buying a sho.

And just in case you need a chunk of extra horsepower you can tune the Ecu for about 300hp for cheap.

Google: Yamaha sho blown heads
The ones from back then definitely have a tendency to crack heads.

Will probably be a good engine from here out, a lot of the SHO's issues seem to be from poor break in procedures. If not done correctly they would "make oil" and things would get worse from there. If it has 100+ hours of running without needing a power hear your probably in the clear imo.

I appreciate all the feedback. Probably won't buy the boat I was looking at, but lots of boats seem to have the SHO, so I'm still interested in learning about it.
I read somewhere that the SHO throttle was cable operated, not fly by wire.
I'm ignorant to this, but I'm thinking my F300 has no cable, and is smooth as silk when it comes to shifting. Is the SHO not like this?

You gonna that that out to the SM?
J/k Imcracked the head on my 2012 sho last year. 750 hrs. I think it was damaged in the freeze though. Bought a new one. I believe the new sho is the same block as the 300 now.

Might know this soon, my guide buddy is about to take a pistol to his. More disturbing, is that he’s been a Yamaha man for decades, been a big advocate for them to his customers, and they have screwed him nine ways from Sunday dealing with him on this (new) motor. He’s been fishing his old boat for months waiting for help thst doesn’t appear to be coming from them. Another friend that’s a Yamaha mechanic advised me to stick with the old tried and true 4 stoke and not the SHO when I was repowering (ended up getting a Suzuki I’m very happy with).

You had me nervous. I have now hanging on my 2024 Skeeter. I have heard stories of the engines blowing up. In fact I know of two cases where this did happen. That's why I hate to run them full blast. But the dealer's tech say I need to run it harder.

We have a Mercury Verado 250 on our 25ft party barge. The Yamaha should be just as good if not faster. We get 37mph in it pulling tubes or loaded.
