There was a thread years ago about do and don’ts when purchasing a new car from a dealership. I can’t find the thread on it. Can someone link it for me? TIA

Have your bottom line price set in mind ahead of time
Be firm
Walk away

there are a thousand dealerships. there is no reason you have to buy today. you have all the time and options you need until you find the price you're happy with. actually believe that and show that, and you'll get chased down in the parking lot or called 30 minutes later.

This is unprecedented. A wife buying her own vehicle has never happened on the OT before.

After buying a car last week ( unexpectedly) I can assure you it's still as demoralizing as ever . Always feel like I got taken to the cleaners.

What did you buy? What were you able to negotiate?

Find the vehicle you want and have dealerships compete against each other.
Negotiate price.
Going with a pre approved loan and interest rate. They will try to get you to finance through them. This can possibly work as a continued part of the negotiation.

If they ask you what you want your monthly note to be at any point, tell them that’s not how this works. You are looking for lowest price.

Then if you are financing with them, prepare to the finance guy to hard sell you on lots of shite you don’t need

I don't understand.
All the pressure they try to put on you is absolute bullshite. Be okay with actually walking away. Can't make the deal we want? No hard feelings, see ya. And then that's how you get the phone call or the chase down. It's worked for me literally every time.
Odds are your wife will make this harder than anything. She'll urge you to cave because she's tired and frustrated

2024 Mazda Cx-30. Was a loaner. Had about 4500 miles on it. Base model. i e. Cloth seats. It was what I wanted. Also the color I wanted.
The "out the door" price came down about 4k from the initial offering. They just took off some BS upcharges. The final 'sales price' was about what KBB had it. So I wasn't too torn up about it

Find a model you like.

Contact every dealership in a 4-500 mile radius and get them to send you a buyers are with their lowest possible price.

Leverage them against each other to get the deal you want.

I got buyers orders from Tampa to Grapevine TX on my last GMC. The cheapest place was Ross Downing, they were only avout $300 cheaper than Barker in Houma, so I ended up just going to Barker because they were closest.
