Certainly, Hamas and other groups are trying to reverse engineer these devices. How long before they could bring them on to planes? Should they be banned from planes now?

That's actually an interesting thought. If these pagers had been in the hands of the terrorists for several months, did none of them pass through any kind of airport or security that tests for explosives? We watch the TSA rub their swabs over luggage looking for explosives; would that type of screening not have detected anything or did these terrorists just not travel to places that would have detected it? Interesting that the explosives were never detected to cause any suspicion. Perhaps the small amount was able to pass through undetected or could be sufficiently sealed to prevent detection?

Nah. It’s more than that. It’s also a grift.

Coming back from Vegas the Mrs had a bottle of water on the side of her backpack. Don’t ask me why. We fly all the time. She just blanked out I guess. As we are getting screamed at about it, a guy with a full on fountain drink and a sack of fast food walks right through the metal detector and no one said a word. A lady behind me said “always put your water inside your carry on. They’ll never see it”.

I seriously doubt that they wouldn’t see the water in the xray, but come on man, a full arse combo meal gets thru?

Security theater.

Do other countries even swab for explosives? I'm poor so I don't travel.

“It had to be done in such a way to make it invisible,” Moorhouse said, adding that one way to do that could have been modifying the battery itself – implanting an electronic detonator and small explosive charge inside of its metal casing, which would have made it impossible to detect with imaging, for example X-rays.

CNN bit about a British expert.

Scruffy’s FIL had a small bottle of lighter fluid to refill his lighter (smoke cigars) that he left in the side pocket of his carryon.

It had been there through multiple flights. Never caught.

He noticed it when we were sitting down to lunch.

Wife and I went to the Biltmore house recently. I had my pocket knife on me when we approached the guard shack where you walk thru the metal detector. I made the decision to ask forgiveness rather than permission and have to go put it back in the truck and shoved it down into my pocket. The detector never went off. I couldn't believe it did not detect it.

Food isn’t banned. You can walk through with an entire pizza if you want.

Guys soda could’ve been empty. An empty bottle or cup isn’t banned either.

frick the TSA either way
