Does anyone think the new version of Magnum PI is as good as the original?

I was a big Mangum PI fan back in the day, but does anyone like the new version?

It's all aight. The original was better, but if you see as its own thing not a poor copy of the original it's pretty decent.

What I've seen is okay, but with a billion other options, it's not all that remarkable.

Nothing will ever top '80s Tom Selleck.

idk could never get behind a Magnum PI reboot without a mustache.
I am sure it’s a fine detective show but I dont understand reboots that are clear nostalgia plays that don’t lean into the nostalgia.

Somewhat off-topic, but Magnum related, it is amazing how "small" a world Hollywood is.
The actor who played Rick in original Magnum is Larry Manetti. Robert Conrad played the lead from Baa Baa Black Sheep, in which Manetti got his real break as adult actor. Both Conrad and Manetti are from Chicago, although there is about an 11- to 12-year age difference.
Anyway, they had mutual friends, despite that age difference, from Chicago. Just so happens, those mutual friends were notorious Chicago Outfit gangsters, Anthony and Michael Spilotro (depicted as Nicky and Dominic Santoro in the Scorcese film Casino, the former of whom by Joe Pesci).
Michael even had a role in first season Magnum as a Federal Marshal (
), almost certainly through connections with Conrad and/or Manetti.

As other have already said, on it's own the new version is an ok show but you shouldn't go into the series expecting it to be on the original's level. As long as you view it as it's own thing, it's a decent enough watch.

I find it falls into the category of a "cookie cutter" show. It is devoid of any real substance but does the job

The new Higgins was certainly nicer looking.
