New truck questions for the board (possibly NSFW)

So I am in the market for a new vehicle and I am determined to get back into a pickup truck. I really like the Toyota Tundra but the stories that I am hearing about motor recall is making me nervous about dropping close to $80,000 on one. I have also heard and read some horror stories about the 3.0L diesel in GMC and Chevy trucks. How is the gas engine in the Chevy and GM trucks? Does it have the start-stop function that Ford has (I cannot stand that). Also does anyone drive a Ford with the Powerboost hybrid engine? Is it good or a POS?

Really? I know 2 people who had their trucks stay in the shop over 3 months because of problems with the environmental systems.

I’ve got the Ford w/powerboost, no problem with the engine but have had two significant issues with the power train, fortunately both covered by warranty, really nice truck other than that, averages about 21mpg

spending 80k on a truck is retarded, get a loaded out ram for half the cost.

Doesn't it have a unique transmission due to it being a hybrid? Were the issues that you had common place with the power train?

like what? I drive a 2023 gmc 3.0 diesel and love it. zero problems expect maybe apple play and sirius xm fight for attention and kick the other one off on occasion.
500 miles to the tank. and has a lot more get up and go than the standard V8

I would think they have the Tundra issue worked out. It was something as simple (and costly) as not cleaning the block well enough prior to assembling it. That could have been a few lackeys not doing their job.
It wasn’t a design fault.
The 2.7 ford engines seem to be doing well. Not plagued with cam phaser problems like the 3.5.
About the 3.5….. they are better, but still suspect in my mind. If I bought a new one, it would be fully synthetic oil all the time. I run AMSOIL in all my stuff and it all keeps just going and going.
The 5.0 Fords are pretty reliable.
NO GM products with the displacement on demand or better known as Active fuel management. None. You are welcome. Some get lucky, most have issues.

I am about to switch from a 1500 to a 2500 due to getting a bigger boat. I have been in the same quandary. I think I am going to just stick with gas and no do a newer diesel. I dont drive a lot of miles and honestly just dont want the headaches..

it appears to be an issue with the 21-23 trucks, seems like like they’ve worked out the issues with the new ones, I’m looking at getting a new one myself, currently have a 21

i drove around a hideous ram 2500 gas rental for about 10 days. was getting about 10mpg. frick that thing. didn't like it one bit. engine felt nice but the ride was shite. was a lower trim package.

I think everyone of them has some kind of issue. The 1500 Silverados are hecho in mexico and chocked full of that renowned Mexican quality. My 2017 is full of electrical issue, is a gas hog, and has crap paint. Dash and seat rattles are fun, too.
Father-in-law has the ecoboost Ford. Plenty of towing power. They've had recall issues too, but at least they're made in the USA. It has the annoying engine quit and start at a stoplight.
Pretty sure there's a code reader plugin to stop that and the cylinder drops while driving.

Not sure what you are going to use the truck for, if you aren’t doing heavy duty hauling or off-roading there’s several options way under 80 k.
I bought a 2023 F150 STX then had a 2” lift/level kit installed.
It serves my purpose and was 52 k (list).

The hybrid engine tundras haven’t had any issues or have been part of a recall. IMO, the gmc 1500 at4 is the best looking truck on the market but between needing premium gas and the bad cams and lifters would keep me away.
