nenbraska thought the same when they hired callahan.
just face facts. you have an unproven head coach who was fired from the nfl and that is the only reason he came to college ball. not because he really wanted to. his father hasn't coached college ball since the early 80's. and O is a great recruiter who is a solid DL coach. nothing more, but definitly maybe less.

Kiffin is definitely unproven as a head coach. That does not mean the potential for big things is not there.
Your point about Callahan is true. But remember that people also said all this same stuff about Pete Carroll when he first came to USC as a failed NFL coach with no college HC experience.
I dont know which one Kiffin will end up like. But there is no denying that there is great reason to be excited on Rocky Top right now the way this staff is coming together.

And Tennessee is reduced to hiring potential.

No...his offensive track record speaks for itself at USC. Monte's defensive track record in the NFL is unmatched in NFL history.
Stop reaching for straws. I was talking about his potential as a college head coach was huge.
You see, when someone has not been a college head coach before, like say, Pete Carroll or Bob Stoops, all you can truthfully speak is their head coaching potential.
I'll take Matt Leinart & Reggie Bush's OC & Monte Kiffins defense all day long.

i know a 3 star that went to Tennessee and got handed $5k in an envelope when he stepped off the plane.

Yeah it take a genius to be able to put up point and rack up yardage with the scrubs USC has against the stout defenses of the Pac 10.

tiny little over-statement

Matched by the bust factor.

When USC hired Pete Carroll, he was writing for Sports Illustrated. Alot of USC supporters didn't like the hire.
An interesting bit, Nick Saban turned down the USC job not long before Pete Carroll landed at USC. His agent (Sexton) told him 'Man, you don't want to go to Southern Cal. Nobody wants to send their kids to school in south central LA anymore'.
USC had to 'reduce' itself, and hire a coach that took over a team that was in the Superbowl the year prior, to out of the playoffs by year three. USC hired a failed NFL coach, who was spending his time as a part time sports columnist.
2 National Championships, & 7 Conference Championships later, I'm sure they're happy they found him.
Hiring potential isn't a bad thing, especially with the staff around him.

keep convincing yourselves passing on Brian Kelly was wise

well if Pete Carroll wasn't USC's first choice than Lane Kiffin must be awesome. I mean that makes sense, right?

Kelly is a good coach. Kiffin + the staff he is putting together is undeniably a good hire.
Kelly's only problem was recruiting. To win at UT, it is a must to recruit. Kiffin & his staff bring that.

recruiting wise I'm not even sure what y'all are expecting out of O. Most of the areas UT used to raid have been shored up by other rising programs. I wouldn't expect him to come down here and steal anyone

Not quite sure you're getting the analogy. He said Tennessee is reduced to hiring potential. I gave an example of hiring potential.
Mark Richt was the offensive coordinator for an unbelievably talented Florida State team, and he has done just fine as head coach at Georgia. Was Mark Richt just a beneficiary of talent at FSU, and a complete fraud?

this statement alone shows the true delusion of your fanbase.

Memphis area has some talent. We will always recruit the south. We've managed to pull out some great recruits from the west coast (Mostly California) in the last decade under Fulmer. Another very good area is the Chesapeake area of Virginia.
If Fulmer managed to bring in two top 5 recruiting classes since 2005, this staff will be fine.

actually a friend and i were talking last night how we both thought mark richt was a good coach but over the past few years we have come to realize he is overrated. so i love your example.

Mark Richt was about 41 years old when he coached his first season at UGA.
Kiffin appears to be a pretty cocky guy, and it's going to be a ball seeing UF wax that arse for years to come.
