Early Dragon Age: The Veilguard impressions are uniformly positive. I spent a good amount of time searching the web specifically for anything other than a glowing preview, and I came up short. We usually wouldn't make room for a news round-up on hands-on previews because journalists haven't had the time to complete the game and thus are unable to score it definitively, but in this case the response is so overwhelmingly enthusiastic and, after two whiffs from BioWare with Anthem and Mass Effect Andromeda, so pertinent that it stands out.

Starting with our own Dragon Age: The Veilguard hands-on preview, Rollin said the sequel 10 years in the making "feels like it's worth the wait" after playing it for seven hours. Following a period of healthy trepidation, he was more than pleasantly surprised by his time with the game: "I've come to believe that yes, I can and will happily play the latest and greatest Dragon Age for another 10 years if necessary. The story, as much as I've seen, is just as epic and devastating, the companions are compelling, and it's mechanically much more expansive in some ways while tighter in others."

quote:

Our friends over at PC Gamer were similarly enthused to see their concerns put to rest. "Dragon Age: The Veilguard is going to be called BioWare's comeback," reads PC Gamer's preview. "It isn't built on the multiplayer trend-chasing that plagued Anthem, and from the six hours I got to play during a hands-on preview event this month, Veilguard didn't seem to be the buggy mess that Mass Effect Andromeda was, either. It has all sorts of features that prove BioWare was listening to its players. And critically, it's BioWare doing what it's meant to be best at: gorgeous, intense, intimate RPGs."

quote:

Elsewhere on the internet, Eurogamer said Dragon Age: The Veilguard "feels like the series' Mass Effect 2 moment", and I don't need to explain what a compliment that is to anyone who's played Mass Effect 2 or has had the displeasure of not having played Mass Effect 2 but being friends with someone who had.

GameRant, meanwhile, was bold enough to say Veilguard will be a "definite GOTY contender" after playing it for six hours. Noted Dragon Age super fan Shinobi602 gave his own detailed impressions on Twitter, ultimately agreeing "this feels like BioWare is back." IGN's writer said she's "excited for it in a way I haven’t quite felt about another game in quite some time."

This could go on and on. It's too early to make any definitive judgments, as again no one outside of BioWare has actually played through the full game, but needless to say, these previews have shifted the conversation around the next Dragon Age and given fans of the series new reasons to be hopeful.

I'm sure it'll be a huge success.

Wait, hol' up a sec...this is from a preview play event? "... from the six hours I got to play during a hands-on preview event this month"

So, yeah, kinda paid for, bud.

Also: "starting with our own Dragon Age: The Veilguard hands-on preview, Rollin said the sequel 10 years in the making "feels like it's worth the wait" after playing it for seven hours."

"GameRant, meanwhile, was bold enough to say Veilguard will be a "definite GOTY contender" after playing it for six hours."

Come on man

All I ask is that the facial animations aren't as fricking awful as ME: Andromeda

I am not thrilled at the models or the "nobody is straight" angle

Can't say I am in love with not being able to control party members. . .which is key to why it isn't a Day 1 purchase for me

But as I have always said I will almost definitely get this one, because I invested in the world Bioware built. But Andromeda and Anthem has definitely tempered any excitement I had for Bioware IPs

Will wait for it on sale.

I mean. . .early reviews by access media types are generally paid for

Just look at Saints Row (the horrific reboot that killed a studio). Early pre-release reviews were almost all 75 and up. And then it released, . .and you know the rest

ETA: I just read that Sweet Baby Inc worked on Saints Row. . .because of course they did.

I have already seen several previews.

You can't control characters, you just trigger their abilities from a radial menu.

A departure for DA, but that’s basically the Mass Effect formula.

Ah the blessing and the curse of RPGs in the mainstream. Sure you sell more copies, but the mind and soul of the game is gone.

People are saying the max female proportions leave your character looking like this:

Max chest size is shown here:

>

You can definitely tell a trans woman was in charge of this game. Definitely didn't want women to look too feminine

I guess it is unnatural for women to be larger than a 30A

But you can add cellulite and "top surgery" scars

They added tranny surgery options for "inclusivity" but the max chest slider is at best a B cup.

The existence of women with large breast and butts is apparently offensive.

Many games these days go out of their way to make it so that even with a character creator you can't create an attractive biological female.

Has a media outlet who's been granted "early access" to a game ever had mostly negative things to say about it afterwards?

It just doesn't happen.

They invite specific media outlets to have "early access" and there is a unwritten agreement that the outlet will hype up the game. That's the price of admission.

It never stops. I'm sure access media praising it universally is just coincidence.

It will never stop until the consumer starts mass pushing back and it makes a noticeable negative impact on sales.

Simply put, many executives and creatives inside of these companies are zealous left wing social activists. They aggressively shoehorn this stuff into the games. They are backed up by a left wing press who praises this shite and demonizes anyway who stands against it.

There ARE people at these companies who know this stuff is bad for business but at this point they are all intimidated into silence. They're all terrified of getting fired or punished for pushing back. No matter how insanely "woke" an idea gets purposed it will make it into the game because nobody ever pushes back.

It's also difficult to assess how much damage this stuff does ultimately does to the sales. They purposefully hijack existing IP's so that many consumers are unaware of the shite in the game, and when they inevitably see it just roll their eyes and deal with it.

It probably does hurt sales, sometimes a lot, sometimes a little, and especially over time, but how do you measure the impact? When a game under performs there are always dozen of reasons why it may have so it's easy to point the finger at other things. This gives them cover. Nobody has ever admitted to something being gay or woke failing because of that. They always blame something else, because they want to keep doing it.

Western Triple A gaming is probably doomed to this shite forever, sadly. I don't see it changing. Not unless there is some sort of massive culture shift and I don't see that happening any time soon.

Many non-Western developers are still not pushign this shite but unfortunately even that is starting to change, they are being forced.

Hopefully mid-sized and indy developers continue to mature and thrive because that's probably the true future of actual gaming, and not the fake movie games and social propaganda crap the publicly traded corpos are only capable of producing it.

Can you point to game that you suspect failed or had their sales impacted because of its woke messaging or catering to a gay audience? Like you said that hard to determine so just go with whatever you think. TBH I cant think of any off the top of my head.
