"I don't think we're at the point where he's "the guy,"

If he’s not the guy, then who is? He’s head and shoulders better than our other running backs. Without him, we lose to SC. Maybe its coach speak, trying not to discourage the other backs. I don’t know.

Maybe he wants to see consistency from him. He had a damn good game but it was one game, plus freshman rb's have a lot of responsibilities in pass pro he may not have down yet. i

Right, I wouldn’t take much from that comment. His role will only increase

Williams or Jackson haven't ever had 1 game like that. And there's 7 examples in that game, with similar holes and great run blocking, that neither did a thing with.

He is that guy.. it's probably just coach speak to keep the other 2 engaged. You'll need both in pass protection downs, and spell carries as well

Early in the season and it’s a long season.

Ease him in. If he stays productive, it will work itself out towards the end of the year!

I would say he probably has to get better at blocking schemes. If he can’t help pass block or run routes then he could be a detriment to O. You dang sure don’t want to just run every time he’s in. Wouldn’t take long for others to figure that out. He will be guy by end of year, probably a lot sooner!

This attitude is part of the LSU problem
It was and is as clear as it can possibly be that CD is a different running back...better vision, better at breaking tackles, and faster than any of them. What more does he kelly have to see. That is a ridiculous take,

Possible that he doesn't know the whole playbook

This is just coach speak. Needs to keep him hungry and keep the other backs engaged also. You're reading too much into it

When the other backs run into the dline for 0 gain over and over against UCLA y'all can defend the decision then. Maybe blame Nuss for not being our run game again.

What’s ridiculous is Rantards being up-in-arms about Kelly declining to declare Durham as the every-down starting RB for the rest of the season after one game, while also ignoring the all of the evidence (including the answer in the PC) that he will continue to get more snaps.

What decision, exactly?

To not make Caden the featured back.

What if he gets half the carries next week? Or more? Would it make any difference that Kelly didn’t call him “the guy”?

OTOH, what if he comes out and gets stuffed for the entire first half, but Williams or Jackson are rolling? Should Durham still be the “feature back” based on the SC game?

This RB group is begging for someone to break out. Durham has clearly earned touches. If he produces like he did Saturday, he will continue to get more and more until it resolves itself - as long as he can do everything else that’s needed. Otherwise, Williams and Jackson will have to continue to get carries to avoid tendencies. Either way, there’s no need to publicly declare him “the guy” after one game.
