Corner play has improved drastically.

D Line has played well even with injuries....Honestly we didnt get pushed around too much. Pass rush has been fantastic.

Linebackers have been OK....some bad read led to two long scores last week....but that can be fixed.

Safety......yeesh...I dont like to point out specific players...but one of these guys shouldnt be on the field at all....like not even on Special Teams. Legs crossing over, over-running, head down, eyes to the ground, tagging with a hand....all just basic fundamentals of defense.....and we cant get someone to step up and erase a bad play by our front seven.

Very disappointed in the safeties......me.

Spears started this past game...looked slow. Gained experience nonetheless. Hopefully he can continue to build on that performance. He will help us.

Spears looked pretty good for a true freshman, he made a couple TD saving tackles that I wouldnt trust on Burns or Ryan

Seemed like Gilbert had an okay game but he didn’t start.

Sage is a much better S than CB

I have been saying this all offseason. The veteran safeties we have can tackle in space and can’t read anything in the passing game.

Take it for what its worth, its not the end all be all of football and can sometimes be a little misleading but Gilbert was our highest graded player this week by PFF and by a good bit.

Kylin Jackson and Jordan Allen are our 2 best safeties and should be the starters

Slow is usually from overthinking and not reacting. That is gained with experience. He’s a true freshman. So if that’s his only negative, I greatly welcome that!

Kylin Jackson

I keep hoping he can find his way into the lineup. This guy was a heat-seeking missile in high school. Had he had his head on straight, he would have been a 5* prospect.

He reminded me of Jamal Adams but has much more length.

I did see him get torched a few times in fall practice clips, so his pass-defending ability probably leaves a bit to be desired, but to the OP's point, safety needs a significant talent upgrade.

I hate to say this but Sage needs to be on the Bench. He's one of the reasons we give up at least 3 or 4 huge plays on defense every game.

LSUtiger89 - Not even a negative. Agree with your points on overthinking and not reacting. He's our best safety. I'm happy that we are throwing him in the fire.

THIS. Jordan Allen has impressed me a lot, his injury this past weekend hurt us big time.

It's been 3 games and I've already lost track of how many bad angles Burns and Ryan have taken and plays in front of them where they end up being the difference makers in allowing a big gain.

Gilbert was the highest graded PFF player in the USC game and Sage was top 5 after switching positions. Major is going to play bc he’s a good tackler and had one of his better games this week. Doubt there’s any big changes coming at that position and it’s not really the problem of the defense anyways.
