recently played and beat Grime and Blasphemous, loved them both. Minor edge to blasphemous. thanks carson and josh for the rec in the grime thread. Josh, i suggest you play Blasphemous. Its great. Isidora, Voice of the Dead, is a complete bitch. Great fight.
I was never a huge metroidvania fan in the past, so i havent played a lot of titles. I have played and beaten hollow knight.
Short list for next:
Casltevania Advanced collection, containing:
-Castlevania: Circle of the Moon
-Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance
-Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow
-Castlevania: Dracula X
Older castlevanias? Which are the toughest?
Nine Sols
Blasphemous 2
Ori
Dead Cells
Super Ghouls and Ghosts on sega emulator (not sure im ready for this)
wait for Silksong (
)
any other gems i need to put on my wishlist?
looking for more of these types of fights:
Isidora, Voice of the Dead, Blasphemous DLC:

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night
Great metroidvania game.
Great metroidvania game.

You have a great list! What about "The Messenger" ?
It's a game that has a retro style with time travel involved. This means the game changes from NES to SNES style graphics throughout the game. I don't know many people who talk about it .
ETA - Scruffy is correct about Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night.

You won’t regret it.
It has a cool leveling system. Great hidden bosses too.

this Child of Light for $5 is looking awfully tempting

Also a great game, but I wouldn’t put it in the same category.
Turned based team battle system.
It has a fantasy story that is almost like a children’s book, but actually somewhat dark.
I would recommend, but it isn’t a metroidvania type game.

The Ori games are excellent, but they are much more puzzle platformer than they are combat games, particularly the first one. Again, great games, but fair warning if that’s not what you’re going for.

Oh. I see. Still intriguing for $5.

Really need to play those. I do enjoy the puzzle platforming.

Child of Light is definitely worth the $5.

There are 2 games that fit the exact formula you describe:
1. Salt & Sanctuary. MUST PLAY if you haven’t played it yet. I know for a fact you will love it. It is the most souls-y out of all these games. Husband and wife team made it and really knew how to get the FromSoft feeling down. Sequel was dogshit so don’t bother
2. Ender Lilies is a must as well. Another that I would guarantee you will love. The sequel is in early access and drops 1.0 in January
From there:
Both Ori games are excellent. 1 is more platforming focused, 2 is more combat focused. Elite presentation, music, and emotional depth in both
Blasphemous 2 is fantastic but I would wait since you just finished 1.
If you want more traditional Metroidvania than Soulslike, Bloodstained was very good
If you want the hardest game of the genre, Aeterna Noctis. It’s a massive game that requires highly advanced platforming skills and absolute precision in boss fights due to their length and difficulty. It’s an insanely hard game and one of my proudest platinums. Truly oppressive though, there aren’t really any moments to catch your breath.
I started Last Faith and need to go back to it, it’s like 2D Metroidvania Bloodborne
Moonscars is another that I started and need to jump back on. Enjoyed what I played
Vigil: Longest Night has a similar visual style to S&S and is well-reviewed. Haven’t played it yet but I think it’ll be awesome
FIST: Forged In Shadow Torch is a bit of a curveball for what the genre in terms of setting and style but it was very good
Tails of Iron is another good one with a super unique setting
I’ve 100%’d all of these besides the ones where I indicated otherwise. I can can recommend them all wholeheartedly given our similar tastes over the years

I’ll never understand why they decided to shift from a formula of Dark Souls to Monster Hunter.

Thanks for the feedback. I knew you’d steer me in the right direction. Some great recs itt.
Did you 100% blasphemous?
no flask run?
I may just ng+ blasphemous 1. Lot of secrets I missed. Somehow I only unlocked 4 prayers

I platinumed Salt and Sanctuary on Vita and PS4. I completely fell in love with it. Haven't loved what I've seen from Salt and Sacrifice but I'll probably get into it at some point.
