Went to get sandbags today, which I've never had to do before.

First come, self service, bring your own shovel. Place was busy.

There was a dude there. Long pants, nice black 511 looking tennis shoes.

He was walking around offering to help people shovel and bag. A couple of older ladies by themselves and he was a huge help to them.

to you, young long pants, black shoes man.

Serious question...

How many sandbags did you get... are they for the front door?

For Lili when it was still projected to come ashore as a 4 or 5, we were told to evacuate out of Milton at like 9 at night because the surge coming up the Vermilion River was a concern. We drove to my hometown Arnaudville which is only about 30 minutes away, but I had to piss like 5 times along the way because we'd been hurricane partying all day.

One of the best drives of my life was going to pick up my grandmother on the coast to bring her to my parents house out of the path.

We had so many great conversations on that drive. She would complain about all the "blue hairs" (old people) on the road. She was 72 lol.

We talked as people on that drive and not as grandmother / grandson and I got to know her as a person. I'll never forget that drive.

We were stuck in Katrina flood waters in New Orleans back in 2005. I loaded up a blue plastic bin with Heineken’s and brought them back to my neighbors. They were very appreciative, and I even made the news.

Our house got rocked by Laura. 4 trees hit the house. For the next two weeks I had no less than 40 family members and friends show up to help gut the house, move furniture, cook, wash clothes, and deliver gas and booze. Made me very appreciative for having those relationships.

I helped an 87 year old Italian man named Valentino load his gas cans into his car. He told me the story of paying $13000 and having a generac installed in may that isn’t running and he found out yesterday the part ordered was defective so it can’t be fixed until after the storm. So I followed him home, unloaded his cans and filled his generator.

Didn’t even rob or rape him

We closed and moved into our first house in July 2020, which was two months before Hurricane Sally. In Fairhope, so no real major property damage, but my wife was 8 months pregnant and we were without power for 10+ days.

No close family nearby, but my 90-year-old grandfather made the drive down from Tuscaloosa unannounced to everyone in our family on day two, bringing with him a new harbor freight generator and a window unit he bought at Walmart. He has since passed but I’ll never forget how cool it was. No pun intended.

I was 13 for Katrina and had to go to school in Lafayette for like 5 months cause tree damage to our home in Mandeville. Some classroom from somewhere in the northeast sent me a box packed with stuff. Clothes, Gift Cards, Cash, supplies.

After Katrina got back to my parents house in Destrehan and needed to pick up a friend in Laplace. He lived in Chalmette lost everything and was going to live with us for the near future.

That was back when they were limiting cars through into St Charles parish with ID and traffic was backed up on airline for miles. Some had to sleep in their cars as they shut down entry at sunset.

Picked up my friend at Home Depot and planned for a whole day of sitting in car.
Had to drive further west just to get to back of the line. Wanted to turn around but decided to see if could get onto river road. Well go figure took that all the way back home no traffic saved about 8 hours. Best shortcut ever.

Ida destroyed my home and lost everything. Starting over turned out to be a blessing. Finally realized my drinking was out
Of control and the road I was heading for… been sober since.

I had evacuated (good thing) for Ida, a large tree took out about 25% of my house. Before I got home, my neighbors tarped up what they could. The damage to that part of the house was so much that it all had to demo'd.
