Now that the dust has settled, should we have thrown more?

Watching the game it was clear running the ball wasn’t working. It was also clear that we could pretty much throw with ease. Sure most of it was underneath because of how deep USC was playing. But those are still going to move the chains. At a certain point you have to just abandon the run. We killed 3 drives by running the ball on 2 of the 3 downs. The most disturbing part of the run not working was that usc was playing so deep and still blowing it up.

Is this Kelly being too stubborn to change a gameplan when it’s not working? Screw the balanced offense. If your opponent is going to give up 7-10 yard easy throws every play, you take it.

Curious if others were yelling to stop running the ball after a while?

I saw no reason to let up on the pass game. You also had a RB who was on point last night. Should have stuck with the hot hand.

I concur. Completely.

Felt like Les Miles 2.0. The passing game was working. It was clear we needed to abandon the running game. Lacy had a great 1st half and then nothing in the 2nd half. Inexcusable.

I don’t mind trying to establish the run, but continuing to run the dive and counter out of the gun clearly wasn’t effective. Should have been more creative with jet sweeps to Anderson and Thomas to stretch them horizontally. Running at a loaded box without the threat of the QB run was asinine. Not having a TE that can block is also a major problem.

Now that the smoke’s gone

They gave us the short pass all night. You take what the defense gives you. It was obvious their goal was to stack the box and stop the run.
