We didn’t use our TE’s enough those third down and goalline situations.

Also Zavion Thomas is a player he needs more touches.

Pimpton and Green towered over their DB’s. I could see it from the angle I had at the game. It’s criminal we didn’t try to throw it up to one of them at least once in the redzone.

I agree with the playcalling issues. But no I lay this on Kelly. People keep blaming coordinators. This is Brian Kelly’s team. He gets the blame.

Kelly gets the blame, he hired a guy with 2 years of play calling experience at La Tech.

I kept coming back around to creativity and the lack of it in LSUs scheme and play calling. There are some decent parts in Lacy, Thomas, Taylor, Plimpton, Green, Daniel’s, Anderson, etc. and there just didn’t seem to be any creative thinking to get them more involved in the second half.

Agreed. I think Kelly went in at halftime, determined to run the ball down their throats. The 3rd quarter play calling was conservative to say the least. Also, Nuss HAS to do a better job of reading the defense of the RPO. There were several times where if he pulled the ball and ran around the corner he would have went for huge gains or a TD.

Agreed. He appeared to me predetermined to never pull the ball and run. It just won’t happen. Time will tell.

3rd and 1 call was terrible USC had 7 in the box waiting have to be more creative in that situation.. Bottom line though is we need better RB’s someone that can make people miss.. JEJ, Williams and Jackson can get you the tough yards but we lack an elite playmaker at the position.. Hopefully Berry is that guy..:

I’m trying to figure out how Kyle Parker is/was ahead of him on the depth chart

Kelly isn’t calling the plays.

Sloan called a decent game for about 2.5 quarters.

Blame Kelly for the fourth down call and the personal fouls, but unless Kelly explicitly told Sloan to limit the playbook, this is on him.

Yes.

Coordinators change every year but the one thing that’s remained constant throughout all three of our season-opening losses under Brian Kelly is BRIAN KELLY. He is to blame.

I thought the play calling was a little Milesish. Nuss need to be turned loose, more Green and Pimp , more big plays. Better red zone play calling. We left at least 14 points on the field with the red zone performance. D is still below average. Where was Perk? DBs are below avg - No PPs out there. DTs are below Avg. No Dorseys, Davons, Lavalais, Spears, Boogers, Ronnie Estay. We need that big name we normally have..I think NIL has denied us.These guys are not blue chippers. Too many portal guys.

pimptons crappy effort in blocking cost us the game as much as anything. sit his arse until he can block better than a 5th grader.

One thing is pretty clear. They drummed ball security into Nuss' head and taking what was open. I know he has had a number of INTs in practice and I bet Kelly and Sloan have been all over him for it. I also think the plan was ball control to keep our D off the field.

The problem with this is if you do the dink and dunk style you have to be almost perfect because you're only getting small chunks of yards and every play counts instead of maybe a miss and a 15-20 yard chunk play.

Well, he hired that guy to be a QB coach, and that was a good hire. But clearly no basis for handing him the keys to the offence. The scary part is that play calling is such an instinctive skill. The great ones have a kind of sixth sense that factors in the defense, skill players available, and most importantly the moment & momentum.

Last night, Sloan was completely tone deaf. Reminded me of when Les Miles used to shut down his OCs and run some 1960s offense based off of a single formation.

They tried to take a deep shot to Green and he looked like he had never a route in his life. Lacy had 1-1 man many times and Nuss quit throwing it his direction.
