Afternoon all, I am looking to tighten up the pattern of my Rem. 1100 tactical. The pattern really is horrible past about 15 yards with 00 buck. I don't understand how it can be as bad as it is. I am looking to get the barrel threaded so I can put a choke in it. Lipsey's wont' do it and no private gunsmith I talked to in BR would touch it. I am sure I could get some machinist to try it, but if they mess it up it's game over. I looked for another barrel and couldn't find one.

Someone suggested someone in Houston, but I really don't want to go through the hassle of shipping the barrel etc. if I don't have to. Any suggestions?

I looked into this extensively with an older fixed choke browning and no one would touch it. There’s typically just not that much material to work with so it’s a highly specialized job, to the extent you wouldn’t want to pay what it’s worth. I know you don’t want to hear it, but I used it as an excuse to justify buying a different gun.

I just got it. I had been looking for one forever. Finally found one at the Tulsa show in April. Went from big excitement to big disappointment after shooting it.

Nice find but it’s not the shorter barrel that is on the tactical. Also $200 for a barrel and it’s only IC. I fear I would spend $200 and it not be good enough. It definitely looks like it was done by somebody at home.

Try federal flite control buckshot. It patterns better with open chokes. It's amazing stuff. All other buckshot is obsolete

Sometimes you just have to try different brands. Even try different buckshot. 0, #4. Go to ammoseek.com and buy several brands and different shot size. Find that shotguns sweet spot.
You might find a threaded barrel on gunbroker.com.
Best bet is to just get another tactical shotgun. Like one poster said….. just not enough material to work with.

I guess I'm being nosy, but in a "tactical" use case, why do you can what the pattern does after 15 yards? That's 45 feet... a lot further than the up-close-and-personal scenarios one envisions a tactical shotgun being used for.

Dont know what you are looking for but what I did with an 870 was 18” 3” mag barrel with winchoke $99. 4.5” rifled choke off ebay, $30.
Put red dot on it and it throws slugs 50yds in 3-4” group.

22.5 overall barrel length.

Extended chokes are around 20-30 bucks if you get one for buckshot.

Putting 4 pellets in at 15 yards isn’t what I would call sufficient grouping. I just want to get it as good as I can.

That’s 4 .30 cal projectiles hitting someone at the same time. What kind of critters you anticipate breaking in your house?

Any cheap ways to find a 24-26" vented 1100 barrel?

Looking to turn an old relic into a modern shotgun.

I've also heard that old 1100 2 3/4 could be easily be rechambered into 3". Any truth to this?

4 pellets in a 3'x3' paper at 15 yards under perfect conditions, in the middle of the day, under no stress with perfect aim may be sufficient for you, but it is not for me. Not to mention collateral damage from the spread.

No, I bought about $200 worth of some ammo I had never heard of. Don't remember what it was. It was a shite pile of it. I think about 250 rounds.

You might have an ammo problem and not a choke problem
