NASA decision watch: abandon Starliner, use SpaceX in Feb
Posted on 8/24/24 at 9:04 am

NASA will be announcing the fate of Starliner at a 1:00pm EST press conference today. We will find out if they are headed back on Starliner or if they will ditch the bird and bring them home on SpaceX Dragon.
Get your predictions in now…..
I don’t think NASA wants that many people (all currently on plus the Dragon crew flying up) on ISS until February, so I’m guessing they come back on Starliner later this week

everyone knows the answer already, Boeing just wanted to do it outside of market hours

It’s a tough pill to swallow but taking the risk and losing Starliner and its crew in re-entry is something NASA and, more so, Boeing can’t let happen especially when they have a proven life boat already (Dragon).

Would 100% end Boeing's space division.

There is no way anyone at NASA will accept the risk for sending them back on a boeing capsule as long as there is a spaceex alternative.

letting the one they have stuck right now float off into space would likely do that as well

Nah, its the maiden voyage.
Space X has crashed tons of rockets in the spirit of designing. Boeing hasn't crashed any yet, but doing so with people on board would be a terrible look.

ugh, yes they have. First, they are like 5 years late. Second, their maden flight blew up in space, their 2nd one made it to ISS but had major issues.
SpaceX never had crew in jeopardy lol

Wow, you know nothing of the current space industry.

Might want to fact check yourself.

Irrelevant to what we are discussing... they are cost plus contractors, so they aren't losing money on this deal. A crash involving people would end that contract quickly.

I've never seen that... Thought there were two orbital missions prior to this one and both returned, although with problems

Just posted the 4 flights of the starliner below

and for the record, I despise boeing and their cost-plus contract

It’s amazing to think how far the Apollo 13 NASA has fallen to be this inept to where we don’t have a contingency plan for this.
Every agency if our government is being run by clowns.
