Paul Skenes will be on the mound tonight Vs the Cincinnati Reds at home. Paul has the opportunity to put together another really good outing tonight against this Reds lineup.

Paul’s stats so far on the season:

16 GP
16 GS
7-2
121 K
98 IP
2.30 ERA
.97 WHIP
24 walks
71 hits
4.0 WAR

If Paul had started the season in Pittsburgh as the Ace he would be pacing for 33 starts, and would be pacing for over an 8.0 WAR on the season as a pitcher. Insane for the 22 year old.

Jake Fraley is on the 10 Day IL and is not listed in the Reds lineup tonight.

Skenes is still the NL ROY Favorite but odds have been closed a lot over the last couple of weeks again as Padres Rookie OF Jackson Merrill is putting together a great year himself. Every start for Skenes the rest of the season will be big for him as far as ROY goes. Not sure if Pittsburgh will shut him down or not, although I don’t think they should IMO.

Looking good through 2. 35 pitches though so he needs to try and work his count down.

Pirates offense is abysmal anytime Paul takes the bump.

Do they have the worst hitting team in MBL? Also, did they even try to bring in a bat for a playoff run?

No. The entire MLB sucks at hitting now. It’s HR or bust

Like that’ll help anything. It’ll still be K, walk, or HR

5 scoreless innings for Paul, and the Pirates offense has burst through in the bottom of the 5th.

Skenes

5 IP
2 hits
0 runs
1 walk
7 strikeouts

74 pitches. I’m hoping he can get another 2 maybe 3 innings in. 6-0 Pirates.

Pulled him after 6 with a 7 run lead. Pirates better not screw this up.

87 pitches pulled after 6

clearly keeping an eye on inning. especially with a lead

They have been hinting that he'll keep pitching b/c they want him to go thru the season, but are considering keeping his innings down. Listening to Skenes postgame, the Pirates have definitely discussed this with him. He was choosing his words carefully, but I think they will keep him pitching every 6 days and let him finish the season. I wasn't surprised when they pulled him with a 7 run lead. I'd love to see him rack up better stats to solidify the ROY award. But I think he'll be getting pulled by the 6th inning more times than not for the rest of the season.

It's probably not a terrible idea, even though I would particularly like for him to pitch enough to win ROTY since i made that $10 bet at +4000 before the season.

Let him keep pitching as long as he's recovering well in his days off, which is somethign they've said is more important than anything for a while now, and just don't let him overwork himself in games late in the season.

Was in Pittsburgh for a conference. Sat behind the Pirates dugout. He had a great game. Busted his arse at first base trying to beat the runner.

oh yeah. I gasped when he busted his arse at first. Seeing him get up and smile was a relief.
