Long Term Care policies.....how to find out if a parent has one

Father has dementia and I recently found that he purchased several burial plots and other investments.
It makes me wonder if he's purchased a Long Term Policy.
If so, I have heard of some methods of finding them:
1. Search his payments histories.
2. Search file cabinets.
3. Ask friends (did that and she says that he had one....but did he forget he had it and it is now defunct?
Is there a database that would search by social sec number to see how many current policies he has?
Same exact question for Medicare Supplemental Policies. How do you search for this?
Has anyone been through this and can offer advice?

Is he old school and paying by check? And does he keep printed bank statements. If so that might be the easiest way (and I realize you covered this in point #1).

I’m assuming you have access to his email/ mail? They’d be sending bills/ communication at some point.
But I feel for you. The amount of elderly that don’t tell their loved ones about things like their will, trusts, insurance, etc. seems to be much greater than the ones that do.

Very true. I was in the same situation as the OP, but with my uncle. I think what happens is, the person usually puts these things in place when they’re still strong and aware (my uncle was… but he was also a very private person). So by the time he started going downhill fast and hard, and he gave me his POA, in addition to him saying that he didn’t have a will (which he did), there were also numerous bank accounts that I knew nothing about.
Once the OP gets (or maybe he already has) a POA, these questions will be somewhat easier to get answers to.
I truly feel for the OP. I’ve been there. It was rough! God bless you.

Do you have power of attorney for dad? If so, you can contact department of insurance. It won't be fast, but might be helpful.

All good suggestions so far, but also they usually require a person to contact should a payment be missed. Not that it helps much, but if no one is around to be contacted (deceased) and/or no one has been contacted, this could be an indication in and of itself.
You'd think the Patriot Act could solve something this simple...

That’s all I can really suggest too. Maybe check unclaimed property while you’re at it?
