Well new to me anyways as it's 49 years old. 1975 Scout II XLC.

Been looking for a Scout II for about a year now and finally found this one that is in fairly good shape. It has some rust but not as bad as others. So far It looks like I'm only going to need both front cab wedges and just the front corners of the floor board replaced.

The rockers and windshield frame are solid and I can't see any rust underneath the truck except for the aforementioned front floor sections.

It will also need new rear quarter panels as every Scout II does, but overall it is a solid starter for a project vehicle.

It has the 345 IH V8 under the hood. PO said it had not been started in 5 years so I'll be working to get it fired up soon. All the fluids look excellent in the motor and transmission so I hope to dump a little marvel mystery oil down the spark plug holes, pull the valve covers and lubricate the valve train some and put a fresh battery and gas in it and see if I can get it fired up.

That’s awesome, good luck. Should be a lot of fun.

Few years back I picked up a ‘69 Olds Cutlass convertible. White, with black interior. Ended up having too much it needed, so I parted with her. Hope to restore a classic once I retire.

I had one of these in high school, what a great car. And I just picked up a 92 land cruiser last weekend to work on with my son.

Nice thread

I envy you so much right now. Do a progress thread so I can hate you even more.

Will do. Waiting for some parts to come in but I've already started tinkering. The auto shifter was stuck in neutral so I pulled the cover off the trans tunnel and saw that the pin in the shift lever that rides the linkage bracket was stuck so I unfroze that and I can shift it into gear again.

Also fixed the hood latch as it was stuck shut. Had to lube the cable inside the cab thru the firewall and then the hood latch itself under the hood. Now it pops open by barely pulling on the knob.

The steering wheel is stuck locked straight as there is no ignition key. The new cylinder lock came in today and started to disassemble the column to install it but discovered that my steering wheel puller kit does not have small enough bolts to screw into the column to allow me to use the puller.

So I'll be off to the store tomorrow to see if I can find some locally. If I can, I'll swap the ignition lock cylinder out, put a new battery I have into the truck and start playing with the engine to see if I can get it to crank. It already turns over by hand so it is not froze.

That will be a fun project. Here is one I saw at the Iron Bowl a few years ago.

Local International Harvester dealer used to throw in a pickup if you bought multiple tractors. Now you might get a cap.

If I ever complete this build, I'd like to get an old IH truck. Their stuff from the 40's and 50's looks really good.

We have an old IH Loadstar from the 60s back home on the farm. My father rarely uses it anymore but occasionally it gets fired up to help move grain if the yield is good and his 3 hopper bottoms are already loaded out.

The truck in that picture has a ton of cottonseed on it and is not even squatted.

You likely don’t need a puller.

Unscrew the nut until you have a few threads engaged- but flush with the shaft is best.

Put your knees behind the wheel and put pressure towards your chest.

Whack the everliving shite out of the shaft end with a 32 oz. ball peen hammer- the big end.

It’ll pop right off.

My dad had an old International truck. I think it was from the 50s but couldn’t say for sure. He bought it to get firewood.
We’d load wood to the top of the cab and had to go up some pretty steep hills (North Alabama) it wouldn’t slow down. It was an impressive machine.

Wish I could find it or one like it.

ETA: congrats on the new toy. Would love to find some toys like that or a 70ish Land Cruiser. Learned to drive in a 72 LC my grandfather had.

Nice find.

I am planning on buying and restoring an old 2-door SUV as well.

Probably going with a Ramcharger, Jimmy, Blazer or a Plymouth Trail Duster.

Love those old fullsize 2-door SUVs.

Same. Final goal for this one is to have it setup to cruise with the Bikini top and an optional soft top for inclement weather setup/cold weather.

Got new ignition parts coming in this week for it, along with a new fuel pump. I'll be changing out the points, rotor, cap, plugs and wires and then we will see if we can get the old girl to fire up with fresh gas.

I was behind and old International P/U the other day going down Airline Highway. Haven't seen one of those in years.

marvel mystery oil down the spark plug holes,

This, after looking at the picture, then reading, I was going to post this. It's going to smoke like a train, but that will be your best bet, with the startup. Let us know how it goes.

Back in my younger days, I did machinist work. MM Oil is really a great product. A guy came in with a car making a loud tapping noise. We put a couple cans of MM Oil through the carburetor. It took away most of the tapping. With the slight tap, we took the head off. A piece of the piston ring, was embedded at the top of the piston.

I've always wanted one of those, but they rust so badly.

IH always fully boxed their frames, put strong rear ends, and leaf springs in all their trucks. For a time, if you wanted a trough truck for the farm, that was one of the better choices if it was going to be put to work. The SV line of V8 engines from IH were built almost like a diesel engine. They didn't spin real fast but produced a lot of torque for their time.

I remember when a rich kid buddy of mine in college got one of those, brand new, it was maybe $4200 or something like that if I remember correctly.
