My air filter looks like it is being sucked into the return air duct. It's as if the blower fan is too powerful or the filter is too flimsy. Do I have a problem?

What kind of filter? If you're trying to use one of those super allergen 10000 micron ones, they put too much strain on the system. Go cheaper, let it flow.

As others have stated, wrong size or air filter is too restrictive. If it’s a 1 inch thick pleated high MERV filter in the air return grill, use a MERV 4 spun fiberglass filter. Your blower is not to powerful.

I have been happy with one of the "permanent" filters you just hose out. It lifts a little when on and makes noise when dropping. I had to put some rubber pieces on the vent to deaden the sound

Is it like the home version of a K&N filter for a car? So just something you can rinse off and keep rolling with? That sounds incredible, please share.

Similar. I got it off of Amazon when I bought my.house in 2016 and still use it.

Not the exact one but pretty much the same

Go to a real A/C supply store, not a Home Depot or Lowes and order the size you need.

I've been using permanent filters for years now. The framework is made of heavy duty aluminum, one side of the filter has a perforated metal mesh and it is the one that goes toward the inside of the unit. The other side is covered with the filtration material made of blue spun plastic that catches animal hair, dust other dirt etc.

Once a month I'll remove the filter and bring it down to my shop to be vacuumed with my big shop vac and then I'll hose it off to get off any loose dirt then allow it to dry in the sun.

While all that is going on I use one of tose cheap filters to take its place until the job is done and it goes back in the return air grill. I think it cost me around $50 for the filter and I've had it for over 3 years now with no issues.
