Coming to a stadium near you: Tennessee sells Neyland "presenting sponsor" rights to Pilot

Tennessee football announced a partnership with Pilot that will see the Knoxville-based travel center company become the official presenting partner of the Neyland Stadium renovations as well as the official travel stop of Tennessee athletics
quote:
Because we were committed to preserving the name of Neyland Stadium, finding a partner who shared this vision was essential.

The official slogan of the partnership is “Neyland Stadium. Home of the Vols. Proudly preserved by Pilot.” Tennessee has already added new signage to the east side press box at Neyland Stadium that says “Home of the Vols” and a Pilot logo will be added beside it.

Nothing is sacred anymore. With team revenue sharing coming, I think this is inevitable for all of us. Tiger Stadium presenting rights will probably be sold.

While we're at it, can I interest you in a jersey sponsorship patch?

LSU will 100% do this. They never like to be the first for something like this but they’ll do the same eventually. Everything is for sale at LSU

Very comfortable. Neyland is a great venue in an even better college town.
Knoxville along when Athens are the best road trips within the conference in my opinion.

I hate to break it to you, but that ended DECADES ago when college football started to fully become a massive entertainment business first, and a scholastic extra curricular second. The universities continued to raise ticket prices. They built luxury suites. Coaches salaries rose (and continue to rise) into the 8 figure range (annually). The budgets for the programs rose incredibly. We went from a few bowl games to nearly 40. Conferences staring signing millions, now billion dollar media rights deals. Naming rights for the stadiums (just like in the NFL) are the logical next progression
This didn't just start because of proposed revenue sharing. This has been happening for a while. It's just that the nostalgia of what college football "used to be" vs what it is blinded fans from accepting that reality.

So, if i am following this correctly, Tennessee Football was able to "preserve" the name Neyland Stadium by entering into a partnership with Pilot?
So, with that shoestring catch, they prevented Tennessee football from entering into a partnership that changed the name.
Tennessee football saved the stadium name from threats by ....Tennessee football.
Junior, please meet LuLu.
LuLu, have you met Junior?
