Was Lebrons Last 2 Years in CLE a Bigger Blemish than 2011 Finals Meltdown?

Lebron critics justifiably point to his 2011 finals meltdown vs Dallas where he cowardly ran away from the ball and hid in the corner in shame as the main reason why he can never be considered the GOAT.

However there are two other major failures that the Lebron loving mainstream media have conveniently memory holed that i believe are far more damning...his last 2 years in CLE (By last 2 years, i mean the years prior to 'The Decision' where he left CLE the first time).

in 2009, Lebron was widely considered the best player in the NBA. he was entering year 6, and 2 years removed from leading his team to the finals. This was an experienced LeBron who was at his absolute physical peak.

as expected, he leads his team to the best record in the NBA (an awesome 66 win campaign) and deservedly wins MVP. Everyone and their grandma knows he's going to the win the title, and guess what happens.....not only does he not make the finals, he loses in the conf finals. but not against the big 3 celtics, not against the pistons.....man lost to Dwight Howard's Orlando Magic. Dwight. Howard.

Kobe Bryant goes on to win the title that season...a title that should've been Lebron's had he lived up to his billing as the best player in the league on the best team.

ok.

hugely disappointing but lesson learned. just a one off. no way could something like that happen again.....right ?

well, the following season Lebron is once again as dominant as ever leading his team to the best record in the NBA and once again claiming MVP. he's going to right the wrongs of the past season and tell his haters off. right?

loses to an ageing celtics team. not in conference finals....round 2. round 2. Kobe Bryant once again claims the title that should've been LeBron's had he just done what was expected (side note: notice how Bron Baws scoff at anyone mentioning they would take kobe over lebron as if they didn't know these two seasons happened)

so this was the context in which lebron joined miami for the 2011 season where he melted down in spectacular fashion. 3 years in a row of spectacular failures despite being hands down the best player in the league and on the best team.

but yet i keep hearing in the media and on this board how he's not even as good as jordan, but BETTER.

yeah, if i was a Bron Baw, i would try to memory hole those seasons as well.

show me where jordan had the best record in the league and didn't win the title. it never happened because he's The GOAT.

Those are certainly all words.

My only takeaway is how lame it is that Kobe and Lebron never went head to head for a championship.

LeBron will finish with four titles in 23 years (assuming he plays the next two seasons). Jordan won six titles in 12 years in Chicago.

There’s no comparison between the two. People got trapped as a prisoner of the moment but Jordan’s resume is head and shoulders above lebron’s.

I can’t stand Lebron, but those Cavs teams before he left for Miami were hot garbage minus Lebron. He carried that team. As soon as Lebron left, they went from the best record in the league to bottom feeders.

The rest of that Cavs roster was atrocious. They won 61 games in 2010 and 19 games in 2011. LeBron was the best player on the floor during that Magic series. The problem was the next 5-6 best players all played for Orlando.

He should be prasied for getting the 2007 Cavs to the Finals at age 22, not dinged because they got swept when they got there by a Spurs team in the peak of their dynasty years. The second best player on that team was the corpse of Larry Hughes.

that's just an excuse. the orlando team that beat the cavs was just as bad or worse.

the kobe teams that won back to back weren't world beaters either. they had gasol but there's not much separation between gasol and ilgauskas.

bron baw excuse making

Kobe was fricking atrocious in Game 7 of the 2010 Finals (shot 6/24), yet he had a good enough team around him that they won anyways. They won that series because of Gasol and Bynum.

excuses. you can complain about the rest of the roster but look at orlando's roster. cavs won 66 games, they had no business losing to orlando.

I had no issue with him when he was with Cleveland and Miami.

I just don't like the Fakers so I'll clown him as long as he's in LA.

Enough is enough... this is the type of criticism that proves he's the GOAT... every aspect of his career and life is dissected by folks who pay more attention to him than his actual fans...

gasol average 3-4 more points and couple of rebounds. big deal...dont make it seem that gasol was light years better. its not like he's AD, he was an above average player nothing more.

Big Z averaged 12/8 in 08-09, Pau averaged 19/11. The next year was even more stark when Big Z fell completely off the cliff, with Ilgauskas barely playing and putting up 7/5 compared to Pau’s 18/10. There’s a reason Pau is a hall of famer while Big Z isn’t even in the discussion lmao. This is fricking insane.

King James has broken you dude. You just can't take his enormous success every time he steps on the court. LeBron was the heart and soul of this Olympic team for 6 games and at age 39 was the most feared player on the court at any time. You on the other hand, just talk like the moron you are. Another reality.

Lol and what great superior teams did he beat along the way to get there?

Hint: No one. The East was absolute shite then (only 5 teams were above .500 and only 2 had more than 49 wins) and no one praises you for being the King of shite Hill. He always played like absolute shite in those Finals so yeah he gets criticized and rightfully so.

what the frick is this? Are you 12?

Anybody who watched an NBA game in the 2000s and 2010s would know Big Z was a decent big and Gasol was one of the best in the game at the time. Pau Gasol was a first ballot Hall of Famer. Big Z is barely in the Hall of very Good.

That is like comparing Jonas Valunciunus to Joel Embiid

I don’t even like LeBron particularly or even follow the NBA very closely but that dude is the Donald Trump of athletics.

For some reason he causes a subset of people to hate him so viscerally that they lose all objectivity. It’s obviously an emotional response rather than a logical thing, but man is it annoying to have to listen to all the time.

Z was the 3rd option for that team, gasol #2 for lakers.

the point you're missing is that they never even faced off because Bron lost to the Magic. a team he should've easily carried CLE past
