Global shipping routes have been altered bc of the Strait of Hormuz and Red Sea piracy.

Global trade is beginning to shift bc of this now as well.

Maybe we should do something radical like make and buy everything we need in the US.

Maybe govt should relax mandates and make it easier for companies to operate... Thank the NLRB, EPA, and other bureaucratic agencies.

Mexico and Central America should become our new China. US thrives on high level manufacturing. In truth, low level manufacturing in the US is too expensive. We need affordable widgets to create high level products that can dominate globally.
China is in a demographic collapse. Labor has become more expensive there and will only get worse. By 2030-2035 the 40 years of 1 child policy will cause China to cease to exist as a global exporter which will destroy their economy.

I’d be fine with at least having the mid-high end stuff made here. The very lowest value add can be relocated to Mexico and Central America. Places close enough to be easily protected and monitored.

The recent reversal of the Chevron deference should help with that, but it's going to take time.
