Playing the original Resident Evil game on PlayStation is one of my favorite gaming memories, so a couple of years ago, I decided to play through the entire series.

So far, I've played:
RE0
RE1 HD Remaster
RE 2 Remake
RE 3 Remake
RE 4 (Original)
RE Revelations 1
RE 5
RE Revelations 2
RE 6 (just started following finishing Shadow of the Erdtree)

I skipped Code Veronica because I heard it's rough on the Series X (I don't have a PC), and I think a remake is in the works?

So a couple of questions:
1. I know most people think RE 4 is the GOAT RE game, but what are your other favorites? I really liked Revelations 1 and so far I'm really enjoying the Leon campaign in RE 6.
2. I'm typically not a fan of first-person games, so I'm a little concerned about RE 7 being first-person. How big of an adjustment is it going from third-person in all of these RE games to first-person?

Code Veronica is a great game. It is very difficult and lots of back tracking potentially needing a few runs to complete without a guide. It gives all the needed backstory before RE5. I’d recommend it. It could be the next remake but it could just as easily be RE5. Which would be pretty dumb because CV is necessary to properly understand RE5.

I’m not the biggest fan of 1st person and prefer the 3rd person OTS. RE7 is great though. I found village very mid.

In terms of my favorites

RE4 remake
RE1/2 original
R4 original
RE 2 remake
RE3 original
RE7
RE5

I really liked the original version of RE2. I've seen some playthroughs of the remake and it looks a lot different. Don't think I'd like this version.

I loved Code:Veronica

I’m currently on 6 and, so far just not really fun. A lot of people talked about the drop off from 4 to 5 but I enjoyed 5 despite it being more action than horror.

So far in 6, it’s mostly QTEs and Leon tripping over himself like he switched to a different kind of green herb.

Like not at all. RE 7 is one of the best entries in the series. It's a must play.

Codename Veronica and RE8 are also good albeit lesser titles in the series. RE8 felt like playing the RE4 remake, which I felt was the least of the remakes so far. Be aware that you can find yourself at the very end of Veronica with no way to win without the proper preparation.

If you played 0, you can play anything. Easily in the bottom 3. I’ve 100%’d/platinum’d basically every game in the series barring the bullshite titles like Operation Raccoon City

It is a fantastic title and an absolute must play. It 100% saved the series. I played through it in VR my first time and it was an unforgettable experience. Amazing environments and characters, just the right length and replayability, some of the best DLC in the series

I’m starting to agree. Less than 10hr in, but it’s the first one I’m not really interested in beating. Endless cutscenes, constant QTEs, character feels drunk… I might put it on easy just to get the story.

Do have to disagree on Revelations 1 though - I love boats.

I wanted to like 1. Had the potential with that setting

Shitty enemies, cringe writing, that douchebag with the ridiculous red hair. It was way too “Japanese”

So far the writing in 6 is making Rev look like Hitchcock.

6 is truly horrible. It’s been kind of my conspiracy theory all of these remakes is just a road for them to fix the legacy of 6 lol. I love the remakes especially 1,2,4. 3 isn’t a bad game it’s fun to play it’s just not really re3

How does it look different? It’s extremely faithful to the original RE2 with one big BUT. They removed the best feature in the entire game in the zapping system.

RE4 remake is my favorite resident evil game ever for many reasons. And it’s mosty the same game but not really lol. They added a ton of positive new features like knife parry, they cut out the stupid ridiculous stuff from the OG which was good for what it was but they made w far more serious game, Luis is one of the best side RE characters ever with his new backstory; and seperate ways for RE4make is likely the best DLC they’ve ever made. It might be better than the main game. That’s just a few why I put it at my top.

I enjoyed 0 and both Revelations. (I almost did put down Revelations 2 during the first level though.) Not sure why 0 gets the hate it does. Almost seems like people feel like they're just "supposed to" not like it. Same for the RE3 remake.

I do think the RE4 remake is overrated.

Now 6 is just a universally shite entry.

Just curious what your reasons are for this if you don’t mind.

Just didn't feel like RE4 to me. Thought some of the new additions were stupid, like the cannons, for example. Some of the old events brought forward didn't hit the same notes. Also felt more linear. Don't get me wrong, I always enjoy a new RE title, but I just don't get tGOAT label.

Now, the RE2 remake love I get.

Fair enough. For me its def top of my best modern resident evil games along with 2make. 3make had so much potential and is fun to play its jut not RE3

I really want CV next, One of my fave old school games.

As I mentioned, I have a love/hate relationship with CV. I really enjoyed it and made it all the way to the end only to find I didn't have enough of a loadout to win. I was never able to muster the motivation to play through again.

Also RE5s dlc nightmares could be sufficient if they are adamant about skipping CV and it’s stretched out to seperate ways lengths from 4 remake imo.

No item box, mansion rehash, annoying and uncreative enemies, cringe opera singing leeches. The gameplay is insanely tedious

I remember playing the train section and thinking “oh man this game is gonna be an instant classic” and then it was all downhill after
