Played Fortnite for the first time yesterday

Got a PS5 so I could play CFB 25. Saw Fortnite was free, said this ought to be funny. Haven't played a shooter since Halo campaign mode in college. I was decent (beat it on Legendary) but that was 20 years ago.
So I chose Battle Royale and parachuted in. Figured the youngsters would end me while I was still figuring out the buttons. Survived the first few minutes and then spent most of the time getting my bearings and staying away from gunfire. After a while I realized the number of players still alive was getting low (maybe 15-20), and I have a shot to actually win this thing. The storm almost got me a couple of times.. I had no clue what was going on at first, but I was close enough to a vehicle to drive inside the circle and stop the bleeding.
When the number of players got down into single digits I tried to focus in and get a gun with a good scope. It was down to 3 players, then 2.. I spotted the last opponent across a tennis court and pulled off a very low percentage headshot under duress for the win.
Gotta admit, that's a fun little game.

Fortnite no build is by far a much more fun experience than current warzone imo.
Especially for the casual.

When you’re starting out you’ll end up playing a good number of bots but as you rank up then you’ll be matched with higher skilled players. It actually is a fun game.

Welcome to the party pal
As a relatively late adopter of Fortnite myself, played it for the first time the first of last year and been playing almost every day since, it’s a lot of fun and addictive. Crazy thing is it’s only going to get better, it has an extremely bright future.
Side note, the vehicles this season are either love or hate them, don’t really see anyone indifferent towards them. I personally really like them. The reload map answered a lot of the hardcore players complaints about this season and brought them back.

Yeah, I knew winning my first rodeo was either crazy beginner's luck or too good to be true

Thanks. My son is now playing too, which of course has gone over great with the wife

Is this basically no cars? I saw there's a zero build too which confused me bc I very rarely see any walls built in battle royale anyway

It’s no cars, but it’s primarily meant to be the original map just smaller, plus a handful of other minor tweaks to make it fresh.
So players can scratch their nostalgia member berries itch and still having access to the current map with the cars and all of its insanity.

I swore I would never touch Fortnite. That is, until zero build came out and a couple of buddies finally convinced me to play with them. We won our first 5 trios matches in a row

Pulled this off in one of the first duos we did. By far the best shot I’ve taken so far playing this game.

Was neat watching the D23 Fortnite announcement live while in Fortnite this weekend
It’ll be interesting to see how Disney and other companies utilize that ability in the future.

Total game changer for that game… I don’t ‘play’ Fortnite but I’ll hop on the game on a Friday or Saturday when my kids (10&5) are playing and play with them and it’s a really good time. They carry my old arse. My 5 year old called me ‘trash’ last weekend

So me and my son have been playing duo ranked BR a few times per week and we're getting a little better understanding of the game, but our 1-on-1 gunfighting skills are still woefully inadequate. I can tell most of these guys have been playing for years and probably laugh at us lol.
What we have gotten decent at is finding good weapons, eliminating needless risk, escaping bad situations, and rebooting each other.
Knowing that 1-on-1 gunfighting skills will take a long time to develop, I'm brainstorming what strategies would be worth pursuing to give us a shot to win a ranked duo BR. We have come in 2nd or 3rd place several times (probably finish top 10 about half the time). One thing we've done lately is using hover jets to get to the tops of trees when there's about 15 players left and and trying to snipe when the opportunity presents itself. We thought maybe if there's only 2 other players left on different teams and they fight each other first, we could snipe the (depleted) winner of the fight quickly and win the whole thing.
Basically looking for the Fortnite equivalent of when Notre Dame grew their grass 6" long to slow down USC in 2005.
