sucks, passengers were probably just going for a joyride and didn’t understand danger of nighttime boating and drinking

Safe bet alcohol was involved or lack of running lights

Popular manchac highway canal bar “Sun Buns” threw a after dark party last night. Only way to get there is by boat. Such a dangerous thing to do just for money.
A boat left there and headed back to tickfaw river. That boat t-boned a party barge with 6 people on it. It’s being said the party barge didn’t have any lights.
One person died from each vessel. One male, one female. 6 kids now without a parent. Very sad situation.

Just awful. As much as I want to say the guy with 6 people on a seafox bay boat, running on plane without life jackets after dark, was in the wrong, you just can’t have a boat on the water without lights. You are asking to get hit if you are in any kind of navigational channel with no lights after dark. I boat a lot early mornings and after dark navigating by radar and instruments only. You can’t see a boat at all in most circumstances at night without their nav AND anchor lights. Even radar doesn’t always pick them up cleanly.

Comparative negligence?
Tie goes to the sober driver?

OT says the Sea Fox was hugging the stand on vessels side, stand on vessel gave way by turning hard left and was impacted.

OT also says someone in the Sea Fox had an app that will show the vessel was hooked up in excess of 5,000 rpms (50+mph).

Sea Fox driver/owner should be getting a good lawyer today or tomorrow.

Someone on the OT also insists he as nearby and the pontoon had lights.

No reason to be running 50mph in the dark.

People do dumb shite. Leaving shell beach on mrgo a couple weeks ago, before sunrise, came across a Blackjack that was high and dry on the right bank of MRGO. Only noticed because his lights looked to be up in the air. Circled back and they were all uninjured. God damn miracle.

From the pics of the toon, impact was directly at helm. Willing to bet that the impact knocked out the switch panel completely.

Lanoux said they found that both boats had running lights over the course of the investigation into the crash. Toxicology screenings were performed on both Sharkey and the surviving operator of the Sea Fox boat. Lanoux said it could take a couple of weeks to receive the results.
