This might be the best Olympic MTB course ever.

Watching the women's race this morning. It's a 100% man made course, but has a lot more technical features than you usually see in World Cup races. Most of the technical stuff seems to be downhill, but it requires some bike handling skill.
French woman on a hardtail bike is crushing the field. The other French woman on a hardtail was in 3rd, but crashed hard on one of the technical features.
I want to go ride that course!

The American surging back into silver was incredible.

I would love to ride that course too but for the opposite reason- I think it’s way more tamer than the usual World Cup race tracks- except for one rocky section perfect for a hard tail. Fast, wide and no roots.

I didn’t know you could get fined in the Olympics

I tend to agree with you. I am the odd man out usually because my favorite MTB is an ultra-light hardtail 26er and outside of the rock garden it would fly there. Even this many years into the big wheel era I still think the 29ers look cartoonish especially when small women are riding them. I love picking my way through technical singletrack on a hardtail but doubt I could find a way through that rock garden.

Especially after having to stop and replacing a trashed wheel
