Every gameshow in the 70's gave away a trip to "Fabulous Acapulco". Now, you never hear of anyone going there for vacation.

Has the cartel taken it over by now?

It took a direct hit from a Cat. 5 hurricane last October. I imagine the recovery in a place like that is pretty slow.

A long time ago which is why you never hear about it.

Its been in bad shape for 20 years. We are talking cartel cutting heads off.

Acapulco was once a popular tourist resort, but due to a massive upsurge in gang violence and homicide numbers since 2014, Acapulco no longer attracts many foreign tourists, and most now only come from Mexico itself. It is both the ninth deadliest city in Mexico and the tenth-deadliest city in the world as of 2022;

9th deadliest city in Mexico and 10th in the world I’m not a rocket surgeon but that means 9 of the 10 deadliest cities in the world are in Mexico

Escaping quicksand, stop, drop, & roll, and visiting Acapulco… all things from my childhood I thought would be more prevalent as an adult than they really are.

It is supposedly very unsafe for tourists and everyone else. I've been to Zihuatenejo and Ixtapa, and they are neat places, the former more authentic Mexican, the latter Cancunish but nice. It's a shame they are on the no travel list now.

That was actually a canary in the coal mine for me - Mrs. Midnight and I went to Mexico (Yucatan) for a part business/part vacation trip many years ago. I never felt unsafe, necessarily, because I assumed the authorities would keep the tourist areas as safe as possible. Once tourists start getting clipped or even violence spikes in/near the tourist areas, the game is up, right?

Well, a few years later, I saw that story with all the beheaded bodies found near one of the West coast resort cities, either Puerto Vallarta or Acapulco. I knew right then things had changed.

Cartels probably abound, but I’d guess if you went there and weren’t a moron, you’d be fine. The US Government says much of the Latin world is dangerous. There is some truth to that, but it is overblown.

And these are the invading force flooding unimpeded into the US. They’re already here by the thousands. They are all compromised by the cartels in some fashion.

From the looks of things, we need to recruit some cartel members to the secret service
