Hey yall. My father passed a few weeks ago and we found out the insurance company canceled his insurance since he passed and won't let us just pick up payments and stay with the same company and they informed us they are not writing new policies in Louisiana...
Anyone have good luck with companies out there writing policies?
Edit:
Lake Charles

Well issue one is how many weeks is a few weeks, lapse time matters
Second important question is how old is the roof

Got a new policy 2 months ago with Sagesure Insurance through Brigthway broker. Best price by far in Metairie.

that's kind of crappy with hurricane season already in play
should at least provide coverage as long as you are current until you figure out what to do with house

It's bs that someone has a 15 year old roof that's rated for 30 and they make you replace it.

that roof age is fine then
depending on lapse time and zip code there should be a couple standard lines carriers willing to take the home
However if the home will be vacant that is a different story entirely

SageSure. They just wrote a policy on an 18 year old roof in Houston when many others denied. Try them.

some will take it but they will require you to cover it at ACV

btw, that is the same with every company for a couple reasons
1) different owner means different rating - different ability to pay, different claims and credit history. to an insurance company you are a different risk - also technically you are still not the owner which is another big issue
2) if this is not your primary residence (assuming it is not) then that is a different type of policy all together that needs to be written
3) if the property will be vacant, that is yet again a different type of policy all together that needs to be written
you will never be able to assume the policy of a different owner outside of flood coverage

I’m in LC and looking around right now for insurance. My Liberty Mutual policy renewed in June and it was actually my auto that nearly doubled. No accidents, tickets, nothing. Spoke with a guy at the Firm. He said LM is doing that bc they are trying to get out of Louisiana. Anyway, he gave me some quotes for Homeowners and auto, and Sage Sure was the best one.

Learn something new...
If I was already on the policy before would that have made a difference?

Is anyone living in the house or is it unoccupied?

A sibling is living there and has been but was not on anything.

That would be a dwelling fire policy typically
Your issue is a bit different since your father just died. Many companies would allow coverage to continue until a legal owner is named if payments are made on time but some cancel (and it appears your canceled, I’m assuming there were no missed payments)
Has probate begun?

No missed payments as it was auto deducted from bank account and monet was in it. They returned the payments and sent us a letter.
We meet Thursday to start all this paperwork.

Not uncommon, unfortunately

I’m not far from LC. I just moved away from State Farm to USAA. I’ve also heard great things about shelter.
