Shower hot water turning off randomly

I recently purchased a home with a dual shower heads (rain shower and regular shower head) in the master shower
They are controlled by two knobs for on off but share the same temperature control. If you turn them both on simultaneously only the normal head gives hot water. When you turn the rain shower on and it’s on a moderately hot temp the hot water will turn off after a few seconds on and a click. If I turn the water off and back on it starts hot but repeats the same sequence.
If I turn the water scalding hot the hot water stays on as normally supposed to.
It almost sounds and feels like a valve starts open and then something is making it close. Any ideas?

Just a guess, the internals of the mixing knob. Location?

I’m not a plumber but this doesn’t make sense OP, posting your handle model would likely help. Most shower handles are completely mechanical and the valve rotation is 1:1 directly related to the handle, so if the handle doesn’t move the valve shouldn’t be moving.

The thermostatic element in the mixing valve is faulty or installed backward during some previous repair/modification. I have a tub with faucet and hand spray. It that started doing odd things with temps and sometimes hammering. A good plumber swapped out the element and fixed everything.
As far as special tools, the plumber did have to use a handle puller to get the handle off. After that he just used a screwdriver. Some valves may, however, have retention rings and need a special pliers.
BTW The stuck handle was caused by use of a gritty cleaner like comet. It only takes a few tiny bits of grit between a handle and a stem to freeze it. I was told that the more complex a valve is, the more damaging a cleaner can be... very tight fits.

I had this issue. I just bought a new valve and swapped out the guts. It worked. I didn't see any way to really damage the internals. Couldn't tell you the make/model though.

Do you have a tankless water heater?
We had the same thing and come to find out, the inflow for the water heater needed a regulator on it and shut off the hot water flow to the multiple head showers if the flow was too strong

I do not have a tankless water heater
I did schedule a Friday service call with Atta Boy as recommended and I will report back on the findings
