My dad lives on the lake in Delhi and ran a disc over his pasture recently. Doing some rock hounding in the busted up dirt and came up with this beauty. I’m gonna go spend a day soon scouring the whole area.

Any of y’all found some this summer working the fields?

We found around 215 at our barn and offered them to the Levine in Charlotte. They said “no thanks. We have enough”

However, Poverty Point is much more notable.

Wow. You should just build a big display case. My great uncle used to have incredible artifacts they would find at PP in the 50s. Bowls and pottery and spear points galore.

I’ve never found an arrowhead/point despite spending a lot of time outdoors. The closest thing to it was walking sugar cane fields after being plowed up and finding things like clay marbles, clay pipe pieces, etc.

That’s a very cool find.

A few years ago I found one after a rain in a gopher mound. I FaceTimed a bud and while talking to him I came across another one. I said there’s another one! That’s when he accused me of staging it.

Keep looking, it’ll pan out. I found some when I was working in cotton fields in high school, then much later on walking through a corn field around south Franklin parish. I absolutely get my rocks off (pun intended) finding these knowing damn well the last human that held that object was holding it to survive until the next meal.

Best is to hunt after a rain. The points will sit on top of the ground.

Nice find! I got addicted to hunting for artifacts about 5-6 years ago and have probably 800+ points now, it might be my favorite hobby. I have been meaning to post some of my finds for a while now.

I am trying to ID it for you but I have zero experience with Louisiana artifacts and I am struggling a bit. It looks a lot like a Marcos from Texas but you're outside the range in Delhi.

My best guess is probably a Kirk Corner Notched but I could definitely be wrong.

There are almost certainly plenty more where that came from, find some more and post them please!

I like to buy a handful from the gift shop at silver dollar city and then scatter them around historic sites

That’s a nice point.

Was at my mother’s house recently a took this picture of a blade my dad found years ago. It was part of a cache he found with 4 identical blades in the same hole.

Wow, that's a hell of a blade. Any cache is a pretty rare find but pieces of that size are extremely rare!

I'm guessing found in North Alabama?

That would be a Kirk corner notch.

Approximately 5000 to 7000 years old

I have a couple hundred points I've found over the years

Thats a cool find, I've got several dozen including a handful of bird points.

I'll leave some to my kids, but I've gotten to where I'll pick them up and photograph them and give them a fling over my shoulder.

I grew up on a farm, walking digging, hunting, riding and didn't find my first one on our farm until I was in my late twenties. Its fun now to tell my kids to look for them, knowing I've found several that I tossed back.

Same. Closest thing I have found was pottery shards that washed up on the beach in St. Teresa FL. Wakulla culture maybe.

It took me weeks of looking to find the first one and then I started finding them all over. Once you start to recognize what materials you are looking for in your area and the type of sites that Indians chose to camp, that's when you really start finding them.

Your area actually has some of the finest artifacts in the country, big beautiful pieces made from agatized coral.

Here is a small case of some finds. I think I have 9 cases at the moment that I need to dig out and take some pictures of. These are all found in Alabama except for 2 of the bird points, which are from Texas.

I found the coin in an Indian camp site, it's from 1858.

Those points are incredible. It is amazing to me on those little bird points how they would even hold those much less chip around on the corners without breaking them. I have seen some as small as your little finger nail that were so thin you could see through them and had some intricate flaking around the edges.
