Curious. Did you create any drugs? How was a bachelors in it? Fun? Or mostly examining bacteria?
I know it’s possible to create lsd.

I took it as an elective and hated it. It was math, and the labs were uber boring.

I have a minor in chemistry and therefore don't meet criteria to answer your question.

Curious on your definition of drugs

I enjoyed the labs. Made aspirin in one.

I passed Chemistry at LSU with a 59 C.
Put that grading curve in your pipe and smoke it.

Most chemistry majors go on to med school or something
Otherwise all you can do is teach pretty much

The extent of our labs was figuring out what element burned a particular colored flame.
Most of the time was spent waiting.

You can also work at a plant.

Traditional Chemistry, was OK, but if you really want to have fun in lab, take Organic....

You may be looking for Biology majors

I have a BS in Chemical and Biomolecular engineering but the only lab I ever worked at was an alternative fuels lab at Chevron where no useful work was even remotely being attempted by anyone lol.

I did extensive studies on the effects of alcohol on the human metabolism.

bacteria is not a large part of chemistry. fermentation does lead into distillation however.

As a lab tech, sure. The problem is that lab tech jobs don’t pay that well (certainly not compared to other plant jobs). It’s comparable to teaching, probably lower at the entry level.
Chemistry undergrads are in a weird spot. They’re really overqualified to be lab techs, but they’re under-qualified to do much more than that in the chemistry field. Most quickly realize that the types of jobs they imagined doing when they went into chemistry (assuming they aren’t pre-med) require advanced degrees.
ETA: Apparently I’m mistaken about lab tech pay at plants.
