The stretch of I-10 between TX/LA state line and Houston is garbage.

Why is concrete used on this stretch of interstate? Asphalt is so much more smoother.

Give it some time. It’s only been under construction for 45 years now.

The stretch of 49 between Grand Coteau/Sunset and Lafayette where it can’t make up its mind if it wants to be asphalt or concrete

The stretch of 110 North by the BR airport where it turns into a rollercoaster

The stretch of highway 71 near Lebeau that was actual pieces of broken asphalt held together by mud before they re-paved it

Concrete wears longer. Asphalt expands, contracts, and buckles under Louisiana heat.

Going east, the worst stretch is the Texas state line to Lake Charles.

Louisiana made a mistake with the I-10/I-12 expansion in BR using concrete. I'm glad LADOT learned its lesson and uses asphalt for all new interstate expansion projects. Texas seems to not have learned that lesson, or the concrete contractors have the TX politicians captured.

The asphalt in Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, and new interstate sections in Louisiana seem to be doing great. Maybe now they have the asphalt recipe optimized where it performs better than concrete because it certainly seems that way.

When oil prices were high, concrete became a more economical pavement than asphalt. Departments of Transportation gave bidding contractors the option of using asphalt or concrete. Some of the low bids on construction projects opted for concrete. That’s why you see the two pavement types on stretches of highway that were constructed under different projects.

I know this much. It'll never be finished. Some of the "new" construction that has been sitting unopened for years is already developing cracks.

Thats on purpose. We're trying to discourage people from migrating here from La.

Grammatically, the most correct form is 'smoother'. It's a monosyllabic word, just as fast -> faster, quick -> quicker, etc. NOTE: when smooth is used as an adverb, it may become 'more smoothly' E.g. with the friction taken out, the wheel rolled more smoothly. –

What are you talking about. The concrete interstates in Texas are so nice. Asphalt looks like shite and lasts like shite.

Compare the interstate on the Texas side to the asphalt shite Louisiana is laying down on their side for the widening project.

Louisiana soil doesn’t help either, but if we actually built the base correct for our type of soil things would last a little longer.

I believe you have to use concrete on elevated sections.
