Extreme weather hunting stories

I saw the Iowa hunting thread and It got me reminiscing. Dog days of summer are here. What are some wild weather hunting stories? I’ll start.
My stepdad had some property in central Missouri. Pretty good deer hunting. Growing up I loved just being there. One winter when I was 15 it was brutally cold. Temps in the teens with a wind. I bugged the hell out of my stepdad for us to go hunting. He gave in. We got in the box stand, I was wearing everything I had. Within the hour he asked how I was doing. Chattering teeth I managed to get out “I’m ok but my fingers are a little numb.” Back to camp we went.
Another was duck hunting in central Louisiana during a nasty front passing. We were in a pit blind sweating before the weather hit. Radar was lit up like a Christmas tree. Decent sized farm and the owner sent a text saying tornado on the ground quarter mile away. Stay there. Fun times.

I was bow hunting northern part of Kansas one year in mid-November and an arctic front came through. Temp was single digits with 30 mph winds making wind chill in the negatives.
I was hunting in a lock-on and my arrow would freeze to the arrow rest so I had to periodically draw by bow back to keep things free. I had quality camo on with battery powered socks and multiple hot hands in every pocket I had. Face covered except my eyes and icicles would form on my eyelids.

Me, 4 buddies, duck gear, pirogue, and enough mung bushes to hide a tank set sail into Biloxi marsh one morning on a 16ft flat boat. Winds ripping over 30 out the NE caused some gnarly chop in stump lagoon. We started taking water over the bow about 1/3 the way in and shite got squirly.
I ran up on the bow and laid across the deck to block some of the splash. Between the spray and waves the buddy driving became disoriented so we had to scream at him to convince him to drive the his boat into the marsh. He was hesitant at first but we didn’t have any other options.
He ran WOT into the marsh and we bailed out about a foot of water out of the boat before realizing we burned up all the oil. Made the long trip back through Loutre just idling and freezing out asses off.
I’ll never forget the moment of silence we all had sitting in his truck in our underwear while blasting the heater. Needless to say, that was my last trip to Biloxi marsh for the year lol.

Had a duck hunt planned in north MS and bug front comes through the a few hours prior to me needing to leave to go.
When I left the house the temp was 20 and falling.
By the time I got there it was mid teens and still falling. The water had not had a chance to freeze yet. Walking to the area water was splashing up on my coat and gun. There was about .5” of ice on my coat and gun had lots of ice on it as well.
This is the 1st time I had used a spinning wing decoy (mojo) and the ducks poured into the hole. May be the best hunt I’ve ever been on.

Buddy and I went to deer camp in 89, was In the 40s when we arrived. This is before cell phones and good weather information. Went straight to climbing stands. Front rolled in and started to rain. Then sleet. Then snow. I sat long as I could and got down frozen.
He was also on ground. Went to 8 that night. In Natchez. Record lows that stand to this day. We were only ones that went that weekend

Migrator hunting in Fergus falls, -27°. The heaters in the pits couldn’t keep up, but we piss pounded the giants.

I have a few so I’ll try to keep them short.
Once in the wax, 25-30mph winds, like 25°, accidentally beached my boat on a sandbar with my gf at the time. Had a buddy heater but the wind kept blowing it out. Miserable. Coastguard chopper rescued people that day within sight. She never hunted with me again lol
First trip to Missouri, thought my Louisiana clothes would be enough. Got down to 3° one day. I had ice sickles on my eye lashes. I lasted until about 7:30am. My brother shot a buck that evening and the blood froze to the trees. I’ll attach a picture of that.
Last one happened this past hunting season when that big front came through. I was miles back in north La on public on my e-bike making an evening hunt. About 30 minutes before dark it started sleeting really bad. I had to break down my setup after dark in the sleet, then my e-bike was damn near dead. Riding through blinding sleet, hitting me in the eyes. I pulled up to my truck with 0% battery life. I could have pedaled it, but my bike is a single speed geared waaayy down to climb hills so it would’ve taken hours had it went dead. When I got home, everything on my truck was frozen from the drive.

A few years back my buddy and I wanted to float the bayou in kayaks and kill some woodies. We knew a big rainstorm was coming in, but we were both off and determined. Had our phones in ziplocs tucked away in the bags. Bayou was low so the float took about 6 hours. Storm ended up being awful, a few tornadoes in nearby areas. Wind gusts horrible and tree limbs falling all around us. We kept paddling and actually killed our limit. Got to the pickup spot to see a few locals launching boats to come find us. Checked our phones to about 60 missed calls from our wives. Great hunt and memory.

I've got a few, but one that comes to mind was pheasant hunting in South Dakota in a damn near blizzard. It was 0° with 30+ mph winds. Most everyone's guns were freezing up and they couldn't shoot. The old A5 didn't miss a beat. We finally got our limits and when we got back on the bus, the guides said if it had gotten any worse they were going to call off the hunt, but they knew we came a long way and it was our last day.

Started snowing early morning of 12/26/15 in SE New Mexico. Reports were that it was going to be baaaaddddd. Loaded up my old Tahoe and duck hunting gear and headed south. Police stopped me at the edge of town, told me the roads were closed. I explained I was going duck hunting. He told me I was on my own, that no one was coming to get me. Drove 15 miles south through very bad conditions, made it to the river, set up, and for 4 solid days I had mallards and pintails and cans and all manner of ducks and even snow geese in the decoys. It was AWESOME. Slept in the Tahoe, ate soup and drank whiskey. Just me and the dog. Never heard another shot, never saw another person. Completely and utterly alone. Unheard of in todays world.

Early 2000's hunting Point Aux Chene, we launched off Island Rd with 2 pirouges and crossed the lil bay. Ducks started flying like crazy before a hard front started passing through. We hunkered down with our pirouges pulled up on the marsh and let it ride. When we decided to leave the waves were so bad we were taking in water.
So, before we sank and lost everything we decided to just bail and jump in. Water was way more warm than the outside air, so it really wasn't that bad. We swam the pirouges in for about 2 hours trying not to lose anything. Rode back home in our boxers with the heater full blast.

Fell through the ice on a small river running a trap line in Michigan. Walked around with a layer of ice on my clothes for the rest of the day.
One time heading back from a deer hunt I had to switch what hand was holding my rifle every couple of minutes because the metal of the gun was so cold, even with gloves on.

I’ve got a few but they’re kinda boring compared to some of y’all’s.
One involves launching the boat in a protected cove with flat water and 13° temps. Hit the lake and we were on 2-3’ waves in a 1648 jon boat with a 15 horse mercury. Like an idiot I turned the bow into the waves and headed for our spot on an island in the middle of the lake. My buddy grabbed his dog and laid down in the bow of the boat while I tried to press on across the water. The spray coming over the bow froze my right eye shut. Started gettin hit with a spotlight about 100 yards out from the island but I kept on heading in like it was a frickin lighthouse. When we pulled up on the shore we had three kids younger than us ready to throw down until they saw me covered in ice. Waited it out and motored across to another spot just before daylight. Wasn’t worth the one bluebill we shot.
Another time we put the boat in the river and heard thunder and saw a few flashes of lightning so we pulled it out and decided to go over to the waterfowl impoundment on the local wma by the river. Started walking in and all hell broke loose. When I got back to the truck I checked my phone and had a tornado warning on my weather app. Turns out a small outbreak of three tornados wiped out a small area just to the south of that wma that morning. (January weather in georgia is insane)
I was mad as hell at some ducks in my early 20s to be doing all the dumb shite I did.
