Simple game that's growing fast and is surprisingly polarizing. What's the OT consensus?

Definitely the next big thing that has the a real chance to become our new favorite American pastime. It won’t be like
Putt putt golf
Jai alai
Ultimate frisbee
Racquetball
Spikeball
Cornhole
…this time is different; I swear!

About fifteen years ago I played a ton of pickleball with my grandfather. This was before he got too old and unable to move around much. It was a great way to bond together and it was a sport he could still hang with most people in. I haven't picked up a paddle since he had to stop playing, but will forever love the sport. I got to spend many hours with my grandfather doing something competitive together.

Some wording has to get changed maybe? Example…
“Pickled: When a team gets no points. Get out the salt and vinegar, you just lost 0-11.“
Word in a sentence…
“Yesterday I was playing Jordy’s wife, and I pickled her real good.”
“RACK: At public courts where rotational play is the norm, players will set up paddles in rows of four to determine turn-taking and court use.”
Word in the sentence
“The women's league in the Woodlands usually have a large racks at any time of the day.”

It’s an activity for people to do, good for them. The issue is the trend of it getting popular that’s bothering everyone.

It’s good for the old farts that can’t play tennis anymore

It will never die in the older demographics as it is very good exercise and fun to play. I will agree that it has been over hyped but it is not going anywhere. Cornhole hasn’t gone away either.

Nobody plays tennis anymore. Courts sit empty most of the time. There are diehards but it’s not as popular as it was back in the 70’s and 80’s.

You can play pickleball in your driveway much like you can with cornhole. Pickleball has lasting power due to this.

It’s for people who can’t play tennis.

I know some guys that play pickleball and ping pong. They like them both because they play them inside in the AC. The tennis courts outside sit empty because of the heat. I think it’s a good form of exercise especially for older people.

I’m just messing around. To each their own. I have a few friends that converted to pickle. It is def great for older people esp ones with hip/knee replacements.

I used to agree with this philosophy until I measured my driveway. You can easily play pickleball on a driveway. You have to be an OT baller to fit a tennis court on your driveway.
