Toddler’s first game

This year I plan to take my 3 year old to his first LSU home game. Plan to do the “full day” like I am a kid again—- his cousin’s fraternity tailgate, Victory Hill, Mike’s habitat, etc.
Opinions sought:
1. South stadium club? Figured he could engorge himself on free food, ice cream, and have a place to run around when the toddler comes out in him.
2. “Good game” or terrible non-conference? Don’t want to be “that guy” with a screaming little in the 4th quarter of a meaningful game.
3. Any tips?

Trust me— that will be an early visit before they are “properly marinated”

Might want to consider a rent-a-win. Don't want to be making tons of potty breaks or have to leave early because little buddy has had enough. Definitely reconsider the "full day" and think about the temperature if it's a September game. I've done this type of thing before, and would definitely recommend a post-nap 2p-3p time to get there. It's not like the kid needs to be tailgating all day. Tailgate a while, then go see the band come down the hill and Mike stuff. Get in the stadium a little early so you have plenty of time for getting snacks etc, watch all of the pregame festivities, etc. After halftime, especially if it's a blowout, most kids are ready to go. Good luck.

I took my son to his first game at 3. We went to an early kickoff. Rent a win. I knew he wouldn’t last and I felt like my job was to get him there and let him have a great experience. Not to force him to stay no matter what. We’ve all see those folks. We left at 1/2 time. Walked to see Mike. Took pics and both had smiles. Good luck! My advice is to remember… it’s for him. If he has a good time. You’ll remember that forever

I did this and regret it. It wasn't their first game or two, but I wish they had never been in the stadium club seats because my kids now think they need to be in the club every game because it has ice cream and air conditioning. I prefer the lower bowl over the stadium club any day.

I took my 4yo to a game several years ago, just me and him. We went to the Appalachian State game and sat up in the nosebleed section. Tickets were cheap and there wasn't anyone around so he could run around a little bit without bothering anyone. That was my biggest concern and why I didn't take him to a conference game, I didn't want to impose on anyone and make their experience miserable because of my kid. We had a great time, Mike made his way up there and we got a few pics and we had hot dogs and popcorn to eat. The only problem was the bathrooms, he had to go so we went and it was disgusting. I took him to the urinal and he said " no daddy, I have to poop!' That was a disaster, toilets overflowing with everything you could possibly imagine, you know, just your average LSU game. Other than that it was a good experience and one that I'll remember forever, him, not so much.
Funny story, after the game, we went down to where the players exit and Jamarcus Russel came out. I didn't go up to him and ask for a pic but his grandmother was there, walked up to us and asked if we would like a picture with him and I said sure. She turned around and yelled loudly, " Jamarcus, come take a picture with this baby!" He turned around and said Yes Ma'am, grandma rules the roost! I said thank you and he shook my hand. His hands were humongous, wrapped all the way around mine. Too bad he had bad work ethic because his talent was on another level. .

Be prepared to leave. The longer you stay the better but my experience didn’t last past the 1st quarter.

quote:Not only do I not approve of this plan, I would think you would want the stimulation of the crowd around him to keep him engaged and if the toddler comes out there, no one will care. Having a kid run around my feet in one of the stadium clubs would be a pain in the arse. And I love kids

I did the same thing, took my kids too early, they dont remember anything about it, they kinda enjoyed pregame, but the game itself was a nothing burger for them.

Vandy game on 11/23
Or South Alabama on 9/28 at least you know it’s a night game but could still be hot

My youngest son’s first game was at 3 y.o. It was UGA at LSU 2018 season. Great game, BTW! He slept through most of the 3rd quarter.
My recommendation is do things quickly, not lengthy. We parked by the baseball stadium, checked out Championship Plaza, went by a friend’s tailgate, visited Mike’s cage, watched the band come down the hill, got snow cones and sat in the shade, and went into the stadium just after the initial rush of people. There was very little time for him to get bored.
We got the tickets for free, but if I were buying them, I’d go to a lower level SEC game. I wouldn’t do a night game, he’ll just sleep thru most of it or get too tired thru the day.

Dude just leave him at home. Go enjoy yourself and bring him when he’s a little older. A 3 year old won’t remeber anything

A 3-year old won't understand what's happening or remember anything.
They'd be just as happy if you took them to a playground.
I understand a father's desire to share a great experience with his kid, but the child is too young for a long, tiring day like a football game.

The people who sit next to us bring their toddlers with them to every game. The kids run around, knocking my drink over, screaming, crying, constantly making the parents get up to get them food, "I have to go to the bathroom," "its hot,"

Toddler to game ? Thats a no for me . Wait until the kids in grade school . So he will remember it and everyone will enjoy it

3 year old is going to get tired of being there by game time if you go out too early. get there just in time for the band coming down the hill. and be prepared for him to want to leave after the first quarter.

Make sure to get a good pic for Facebook and instagram since that’s the only reason you’re doing this
