quote:

[“New Propeller” is] a rumination on changes. It’s probable that during most years, most decades, we’ve felt that the present is peeling away from the past, that things are taking a new turn, sometimes a darker one. That ‘things are different now.’ These last years have been no exception. It feels obvious to say that things are changing faster than ever, but they really are. AI is a new frontier that is raising so many questions, and it’s undeniable that we’re in a different political world than we were a few years ago.

Ric Ocasek is responsible for any success Nada Surf has experienced.

I would have never guessed in 1996 that I would end up a Nada Surf fan.

But from 2003 to 2008 they released 3 of my favorite albums.

Let Go is still in heavy rotation for me. If you’ve never heard that album, just try to forget they’re the “Popular“ band and give it a try. I think it’s an all time classic.

Wild. I was just thinking about them the other day. "Popular" is still a banger.

In 1999, this guy I knew, Ross, walked up to me and said, “Hey The NZA, I heard you’re a big Nada Surf fan.” It was just a random joke. But for whatever reason it stuck in my head. A few years later, I was at a Best Buy and saw Let Go. Bought it on a whim having never heard of it and not even knowing they were still even a thing. Kinda felt like I discovered them on my own.
Plus, that was coming out of the late 90s and crappy Nu Metal/boy band era. It was like discovering that all music didn’t suck. A couple years later I started a Pandora channel based on that band and it led to me discovering tons of bands that I probably wouldn’t have known had I not bought that album.

Ross probably knew, you being a founding member of Wu Tang and all, that it would be right up your alley.

(BTW, you didn't grow up around Baton Rouge, did you?)

He didn't used to wear a plaid golf hat and favor ska music, eh?

That’s most probably him. Haven’t seen that guy in like 25 years.

Did you go to the same school as us?

On my list of all time underrated bands. I listen to I Like What You Say, Happy Kid, Whose Authority, Always Love and many more all the time. But lately, it's been Electrocution. It's now one of my favorite covers of all time.

Finally got around to listening. Reminds me of Blonde On Blonde. Not my favorite sound from them. Much prefer the faster somewhat harder stuff.

I think it's a great album ( Fruit Fly is one of my all-time favorite songs) and I think I might like the follow-up to that album even better (The Weight is a Gift). They always seem to have at least one great song on every album, like Cold to See Clear off of You Know Who You Are.

I feel the same. However, Blonde On Blonde is one of my favorites of theirs.
