Saw Bobby on WWL last night in his Thursday night segment with Jim Henderson and he predicted that Gary Gibbs will be back next year, and followed up by saying that Gibbs was well respected by the coaches. How in the hell can this be? The guy has been pretty much a failure everywhere he's been. Even when he coached for LSU the defense was pretty bad, and he even had Saban helping him.
To not make changes on the defensive side of the ball I think Payton will be signing his own pink slip. If we can't get pressure on the quarterbacks we have on next years schedule, we might win 4-6 games.
It's simply inexcusable to have the #1 offense in the NFL and not even make the playoffs. I would trade Payton this second for Mike Tomlin or John Harbough.

I agree with Bobby that Gibbs wont be fired. I think he should go, but he wont. I also think all this "fire Payton" talk is dumb. The only way Payton has a chance of getting fired is if he has a 2005 type saeaon next year. Also, he just got a contract extension earlier this season.

if that's the case get ready for us to suck again next year with 7-8 losses.

if gibbs returns, saints get 6 wins max. they will not be able to beat the good teams next year. defense will be even worse, and offense will be one of the best. being realistic fellas. i see a 6-10 season at best if gibbs returns.

If we get 2 good safeties and 1 LB we could turn that D around pretty quick.

the defense has played great for the past 6 or 7 weeks... ever since the chiefs game.

gibbs isn't the problem - our defense will be good next year if we upgrade the safety positions.

our offense lost the tampa game - defense played great. our offense lost the vikings game - defense played great. our offense lost the redskins game - defense played well enough to win. offense has lost almost as many games this year as the defense has.

I'm sorry to say this is false. Payton just received a new five year extension. He could go 0-16 next year and he's not going anywhere.

If payton goes 0-16 (which he wont) he probably would be fired.

On another point the offenses job is to score enough points to win and the defenses job is stop the other guys from scoring more pts than the offense. If either of these dont happen THE TEAM loses.

If there is one lesson Sain'ts fans should have learned by now, firing coaches for a new one hasn't workd.

With Payton, the Saints are respectable and have a foundation to build on. Starting over with a new head coach would be stupid.

Yep... typical bush league Tom Benson move. Give him what a 5 year extension after he wins the first game of the year over Tampa?

I am in total agreement. The club keeps signing defensive free agents on defense and the dee has regressed the last three years. Hello, who gets the axe and blame on that one? To me the DC goes first

Gotta agree with that. Payton's still a young coach in a learning curve of his own. At least he's shown a willingness and ability to see problems and try to fix them. Year before defense was a big problem, so he and ML bring in a bunch of D help with Vilma, Sedg, Porter, Gay, etc. This year as I see it its the O-line/running game and safety position that need the most help. We will see.

Except they gave up the game-winning pass interference play, and a game-tying fg drive right before it, and 30 total point. But yeah, they played great and it was totally the offense's fault for only scoring 27 points.

Right, except for Gibbs putting a rookie in his second nfl game on one of the fastest wr's in the nfl, and giving up 29 points to a team that never managed to score 29 points in any other game this season. Definitely the offense again.

I won't argue with on this one, Brees blew that game in the end, no question about it.
