The recall covers certain F-150 pickups from the 2014 model year

quote:

The recalls come after U.S. auto safety regulators in March began investigating complaints that more than 540,000 Ford pickup trucks from 2014 can abruptly downshift to a lower gear and increase the risk of a crash.

quote:

The Dearborn, Michigan, automaker says it knows of 130 complaints to the government, with 52 alleging that rear wheels locked up or that drivers lost control of the trucks. Two of the complainants reported injuries and one reported a crash that could have been caused by the problem, Ford said.

In a statement Tuesday, Ford said it expects repairs to be available in the third quarter of this year. Owners will be able to use mobile service or pickup and delivery at participating dealers.

Documents say the problem is caused by a lost signal between a transmission speed sensor and the powertrain control computer. There also could be corrosion and problems with connector pins.

Who knew trannies and shifts could cause such trouble.

I had a 2021 ford. Transmission gave me so much trouble. 10 speed, from 5 to 4 it would jerk so badly. I won my case under the Louisiana Lemon Law.

I have a 2020 F150 and at 58K mikes transmission jerked in 7th gear every time. Robinson brothers had my truck from May to August before it was fixed. Cost our company over $6K in truck rental.

Honda had an even worse issue with their Odysseys/Passports/Acura MDXs some years back, except that their transmissions would lock up completely, and, being FWD, would cause the vehicle to swap ends at speed.

No automaker is immune from serious problems any more - see Toyota's current catastrophic engine failure recall (~2 year wait for a new engine) and Kia's notice to park all Tellurides outside due to fire hazards.

Sudden downshift to 1st on a wet or icy road in an unloaded RWD truck is going to make for a real bad day...

How does it take 10 years to issue a recall on such a dangerous issue?!!?

I've officially entered into old man territory....but my god bring back the simple stuff. I have a 2020 Dodge Ram that has all sorts of annoying little things....all tied to transmissions and sensors. When slowing for stop sign or red light, transmission downshifts too quick and causes a rev dump. Occasionally it will throw a throttle sensor air flow too high and put the truck in limp mode...in the middle of driving at highway speeds. Seemingly unrelated but when it throws throttle sensor error, it also throws stability control error.

Just make a mechanical functioning unit with air and radio and call it a day.

I think it’s discriminatory to not allow trannies to select the gear they want.

Interesting. I have a 2014 F-150 that did just this very thing back in early April. Had to replace the entire transmission. Then, only a couple weeks ago, had the same issue with loss of communication to the transmission speed sensor (OBD2 code P0721). The recent occurrence was covered by warranty on the new transmission. However, I think I may do some research and see whether the cause of the original failure was due to this issue at the root of the recall. I wouldn't mind having a few thousand bucks refunded due to this being the cause of the original failure.

On a continuing note, I freaking HATE all these new transmissions that rely on electronic sensors rather than mechanically operated transmissions. Adding another sensor only means that you're adding another expensive part that will fail sooner rather than later. I think I'll start driving the old '57 Thunderbird more frequently now. A whole lot fewer parts and sensors to go bad and cost a fortune!

Well yeah the foreign companies like soyota and fõrd can’t match the American excellence of Chevy
