College sports with like 40 schools is going to be so boring. Having 100-300+ participants depending on the sport is what separates it from college. It’s like soccer in Europe. There’s TONS of fanbases from tiny corners of the country playing the same sport.

One of the bigger advantages college football had was that on Saturday there were always games on CBS/ABC/FOX/6 ESPNs from 11am to pac 12 after dark.

All needed for that was basic cable. Now i fear we are drifting away from that.

If anything, college football is moving towards an English soccer model, albeit with a playoff and without annual relegation. The power conferences have morphed into an oversized Premier League, with the G5 teams forming the Champions League, and the smaller teams filling out the lower level leagues.

Hell, if you think about it, the playoff spot reserved for the best G5 team is a form of promotion.

He should be. Once they sacrifice the FBS divisions and the G5 conferences, the only far left to trim will be these mid tier P5 conferences

Headed towards a 30-50 team league. Been headed that way since 2010, it’s like watching a slow car crash that no one in the car believes the crash is happening

Illinois has been playing football for 132 years.

They’ve managed to win more than seven games only fifteen times over that span, and nearly half of those seasons were over 100 years ago before the formation of the Big 10 Conference.

10 win seasons: 4 times
9 win seasons: 3 times
8 win seasons: 8 times

Illinois has a lot of history. They’ve won a couple of NCs, and and have produced legends like Dick Butkus, George Halas, Ray Nitschke, and Red Grange. However, it’s kind of pathetic that a prominent university in a large state has been average at best throughout its football history. They’re below .500 for their overall record, despite their successes in the distant past.

I hate to see schools like Illinois culled from the herd, but they only have themselves to blame, and that blame goes back generations.

Super League is coming. Ohio State and Alabama will get tired of sharing money with also-rans.

He shouldn't be.

Major donors like shad Khan big school in state with a major city.

Their donors must not care, they have the money to be competitive in football and bball. And have a lot of talent in state for both. Sports

The only reason I think Ole Miss could possibly survive is because we have always been pretty good at playing politics within the conference. Having the Mannings as college football royalty is big too. Plus we have a pretty good national appeal with The Grove and Kiffin has done a good job bringing in even more attention.

That being said, if we got left out it wouldn’t shock me either

The next big step after the SEC and Big 10 finish expanding is cutting the dead weight. One or both of the conferences will drop someone in the next decade if this all continues. I don’t think the Big 10 or SEC plan on staying at 16-20+ teams forever
