I'm not an insider or anything, but leading up to 2018 you could see RPOF setting up Adam Putnam a mile away. I haven't seen anything that obvious but I also don't watch the news as much as I used to. I suspect RD wields enough clout that someone from his administration will be tapped, but we'll just have to wait and see. If you forced me to bet right now it would be Nunez.

I doubt he could get elected. He's put a lot of effort into throwing red meat to his district, which is fine, but it doesn't exactly set you up for success if you want to move to Tallahassee. I suspect Gaetz is sharp enough to know that, which tells me he probably isn't interested.

Doubt it. The Governor hasn’t come from the Panhandle since maybe Reuben Askew.
Aside from that, Gaetz just isn’t liked statewide. His district is the reddest of the red, and he is supported by most of the kingmakers here in Pensacola so he is insulated during the primaries.
But he has a 57% disapproval rating among Floridians. That’s pretty bad considering Florida’s move to become more conservative with DeSantis’s stewardship.
That, combined with the fact that he is not from South/Central Florida, makes his journey to the Governorship very difficult.
So if I had to guess, Florida’s next Governor will be some wishy-washy Republican, and Florida will slip back to being a purple state.
DeSantis was the exception, not the rule.
