I'm going to bet on them hedging a bit.

They are going to say that they CAN renovate the SKC with a massive renovation, and they can do this this and that. However they will also say it will only delay that they will need a new arena eventually, in say 15 years or so after the renovation.

It is the worst arena in the NBA. But the location is so damn good. Its hard to deal with it. Where do you play for the 2-3 years it takes to tear it down and rebuild?

This is my biggest concern with the Super Dome and SKC. If they rebuild either, it must be in the same location. It's just too perfect of a location.

Move the arena up to rampart. Play in old one until new one is finished

Other Options:

1) Do a swap with the superdome parking garages and that "club building' next to champion square that used to be a shopping mall. I have a friend who works in front office security for dome and evidently Homeland has concerns about the attached parking lots in the dome and the Saints spend a lot to secure them. They have recommended they move.

2) Relocate the post office - it does not need to be downtown or next to train track anymore. In fact, it would be better for everyone if it were elsewhere. The land value alone would fund the relocation to a new main post office.

3) City Hall site. Its moving. Build it where city hall is and then a bridge over Poydras to the Superdome.

4) Build in around the old Charity Hospital. They have entire blocks which are parking lots/non-historic blight. An arena project would revitalize the surrounding area in a dead part of downtown. The investment in a new arena would have some economic return.

Charity Hospital is now Tulane nursing school. Also, unless they are clearing out that area, it is much less safe than current Arena area.

Why couldn't the Pels play in the Superdome until renovations or a rebuild of SKC is complete?

Any of these seem workable.

Unless they to play at UNO or out of New Orleans, the Dome is the most reasonable solution. It doesn't need to be a good solution, just the best from multiple bad ones.

(2) would be most cost effective but would need to also adjust the rail lines

It’s not. I visited Minneapolis in November when the Saints played. Saw Adam Sandler at the Target Center that night. Venue is a total dump. I agree with everything else you’ve said though.

So tired of NOLA teams just getting renovations. Wish at least one of the teams would get a new arena/stadium.
