Do yall think he’s doing that to get under their skin as a troll or is he trying to be PC and avoid saying Ole Miss?
I can’t recall ever hearing him refer to them as ole Miss

He’s a yankee who probably thinks it sounds weird tbh
ETA: I say that lovingly, but it’s probably as simple as that

I too think it's simply because he's from the north. Only people from the south call them Ole Miss. That's even true for tv commentators.

They are Mississippi…nothing wrong with that

I live in the north. No one around here calls that school Mississippi.

Absolutely false. They’re branded as Ole Miss on tv. On their uniforms etc.

Ole Miss name needs to be retired.
Plantation days: It may have come from a title used by domestic slaves to distinguish the mistress of a plantation from "young misses". However, some say the term was derogatory and represented cruelty, turmoil, anger, and pain.

They are the University of Mississippi.

A case could be made for U Miss (like UMass). Has a delightful, annoying, double entendre quality to it. Since Kelly is from Mass, it has potential as a troll retort to Kiffin... though that's not Kelly's style.

Coach has been immersed in college football for forever. Seems to me ‘Mississippi’ is simply a preference over ole miss and signifies nothing to him.

saying "ole miss" probably feels odd for an old guy from boston though.

Growing up the Sunday edition of the Times Picayune listed SEC scores on the top of the front page and listed Ole Miss as Mississippi. Also many live TV scores listed them as Mississippi. I don't think Ole Miss fans get upset.
